The members of the Bowman family represented in the correspondence include children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of Rev. Joseph O. Bowman (1766-1849) and Christian Bowman (1766-1824). Although the families share a common distant ancestor the commonality of families in the set of correspondence represented here comes from Elizabeth Bowman (b. 1844) and Nancy Bowman (1839-1925), both children of Samuel B. Bowman, marrying brothers Allan (1841-1928) and Simon (b. 1844) Bowman, children of Samuel W. Bowman. A more complete family tree is included in file 1 of the fonds.

Material relating to members of the Isaac Lucius Bowman family, their interests and activities. Some of the most significant local material in the fonds originates with the Bowman family. Isaac Lucius Bowman was born at Freeport in 1830, and was founder and principal of the Freeport Academy from 1867-1872. This very early educational institution is here documented with Proceedings of the Academy, ephemera, and two photographs of the members of the Academy. I. L. Bowman then trained to be a Provincial Land Surveyor, and many of the very early plans and maps in the fonds are from the Bowman Family belongings. Of his four sons, three also became surveyors and Engineers, while Hervey attended the Universities of Toronto and the Leipzig. His files relate mostly to his educational pursuits, but include some other family-related materials.

File consists of one letter from Christian Enslin, bookseller and bookbinder, Waterloo, Ontario to Fredrick Heinitsch, M.D., Lancaster, Pennsylvania requesting the right to "Mother Drops", a medicine created by Dr. Heinitsch on which he held the patent.
The letter also includes information on bookbinding and printing practices in Upper Canada and makes reference to local figures such as Benjamin Eby, Bishop of the Mennonites.

Margaret Schreiter was "Camp Mother" at Camp Tinawatawa on Paradise Lake near Waterloo, Ontario between 1952 and 1959. The materials contained in this fonds include reports, the texts of presentations given by Margaret Schreiter, the outline of a discussion at a camp counsellors meeting led by Margaret Schreiter, correspondence, an manuscript list, and a camp newspaper. These items help document Y.W.C.A. camping activities at the time.

Like many other Kitchener natives, E.B. Dunke seems to have purchased land in Saskatchewan, documented by one file of correspondence.

Edwin Dunke was probably the proprietor, or part owner, of Dunke and Co., a grocery store at 35 King. St. E. between Queen and Benton Streets. The "day books" of this store, complete with customers' names, purchases and store inventories reveal the daily lives, diets and purchasing patterns of local families and individuals from 1896 to 1930.

Evidence of printing activity is present in legal forms printed by local booksellers and stationers for the firm. The documents contain evidence of trades and occupations of the time, including marble cutter, tailor, hotel keeper, farmer, woolen mill employee, button turner, shoe merchant, cabinet maker, tobbaconist, cigar box manufaturer, brewer, pumpmaker, telephone agent, etc. Also interesting to note is the shift to the use of a typewriter and the appearance of a female employee described as a "stenographer." Interesting also is the relative level of literacy evident in the signatures of individuals, particularly those of husbands and wives, many of whom are represented only by their "mark."

More than 2 million negatives taken between 1938 and 2001 by staff photographers at the Kitchener-Waterloo Record (KWR) and its predecessors. Providing a historical look at the Region of Waterloo, the Collection includes documentary photographs of local news events, community activities, regional development, human-interest stories, businesses, schools, and sports teams. Portraits of business and community leaders, as well as commissioned photos taken for advertising purposes, are part of the Collection. The certificate is signed by past-presidents including Bertha Lang, Sarah Lang, Martha Rieder, Lottie Pequegnat, Caroline Augustine, Rosie Pollock, Sara Breithaupt and others.

Fonds consists of two typescript leaves with directions for the tanning process used by the Lang Tanning Company for their contract with the RCAF.

Among the subjects are three individuals who would later serve as mayor of Berlin or Kitchener following its 1916 name change: William Daum Euler (1914-1917), David Gross Jr. (1917-1919), and Nicholas Asmussen (1925 -1926). William Daum Euler was also elected to the House of Commons of Canada (1917) and Nicholas Asmussen to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (1919-1926). Both represented Waterloo North, Ontario in their Federal political office.

Collection consists of ephemera relating to the Presbyterian Canadian Girls in Training program. Includes song and lyric sheets, programs from the 1970 vesper service, notes on overcoming denominational difference in CGIT, a booklet by Marilyn Kalbfleisch on Christian living and a brochure for the 1967 New Hamburg relief sale.

File consists of one film reel showing the exterior and operations of the R. Forbes Co. woollen mill in Hespeler (Cambridge), Ontario. The mill would later become the Dominion Woollen and Worsted Mill.

Nineteen file folders of material (originally stored in a binder) relating to the Y.M.C.A. Chorus over the period 1935-1940. Materials include group photographs with members identified, itineraries, list of songs, a list of members, ephemera, one audio cassette, and current correspondence from the Y.M.C.A. and Schneiders. Also includes contemporary materials on archival donations of the materials.

Fonds consists of textual materials created or accumulated by members of the Ratz family, primarily for the assessment and disbursement of the John Ratz and Ratz Brothers business estates. This include correspondence, tax records, legal documents, deeds of land and receipts.

Records related to the Ratz family, principally created or accumulated by Herbert Ratz, documenting the personal and professional lives of various Ratz family members. Records include correspondence, press clippings, genealogy research, legal documents, ephemera, academic publications, presentations and related administrative papers. The fonds also contains graphic material including photographs, technical drawings, and artifacts.

Consists of one 10 p. item of correspondence from Jacob Ratz of New Hamburg to Elmer Ratz of Hamilton outlining the genealogy of the Ratz family.

Fonds consists of one Upper Canada deed of enrollment from Richard Beasley to David Gingrich for a parcel of land in Waterloo County. The parcel in question is noted as being "a certain parcel on tract of land in the Township of Waterloo in Richard Beasley Lower Block on the Northside of the Grand River containing one hundred acres ... being composed of the Eastern half of lot number four in the Second Concession beginning at a post planted equal distance from the front to rear on the division line between lotts number three and four which is the south east corner of Jacob [M] half of the same lott. Thence move seventy seven degrees East forty chains more or less to within fifty links of the rear of the said concession. Thence North thirteen degrees west twenty five chains more or less to the north east of Jacob [M] said half lott thence south thirteen degree east twenty five chains more or less to the place of beginning containing one hundred acres..."

Accrual consists of materials created and accumulated by members of the Rieder and Anthes families. Includes correspondence, bonds, one photograph, ribbons, lace, a handkerchief and a war work guide.
