The Lady Aberdeen Library on the History of Women, known as the Lady Aberdeen Collection, was donated to the University of Waterloo Library in 1967 by the National Council of Women of Canada to mark the occasion of the Centennial of Canadian Confederation.

The Women's Kit is an educational multimedia kit covering a range of influential women and women's issues. The Women's Kit was created by Pamela Harris, Becky Kane, and Donna James for the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE). Includes a collection of copies of historical materials about the suffragette movement, family life, social and political movements, the arts, law, education and culture, with a focus on Canadian women.

Collection consists primarily of negatives taken by Imprint and Chevron photographers documenting various aspects of campus life. Manuscript notes on envelope enclosures, prints and contact sheets are also included.

Material created and accumulated by Jim Keron during his time as an undergraduate student at the University of Waterloo. Includes music posters, buttons, photographs, flyers, meeting minutes and other textual records as well as items related to Keron’s participation in planning Summer Weekend 68, Orientation 68, and Orientation 69.

A collection of 15 issues of the first hacker newsletter, the Youth International Party's (Yippies) phone hacking ("phreaking") newsletter, the Youth International Party Line (later renamed Technological American Party, or TAP). Also includes a hand written sheet on number 5 signalling systems.

The fonds consists of photographic negatives and prints created by Pirak Studios Limited, primarily featuring graduation portraits and class composites of University of Waterloo students. The fonds also includes graduation portraits and class composites of students from several other educational institutions, which are identified in the series and file level descriptions as well as logbooks maintained by Pirak Studios Limited documenting photographic services provided to clients.

Consists of fonds related to the personal and professional lives of A.R. Kaufman and W.H. Kaufman, and the family-run business Kaufman Footwear.

Fifty-five sketchbooks by Herbert Odd containing pen and ink drawings, with some watercolour sketches and some pencil sketches.

One scrapbook including photographs, newspaper clippings and other items related to the women's suffrage movement. Also includes several newsletters of the Women's Social and Political Union, which was founded by Emmeline Pankhurst. Of note are clippings regarding white slavery.

One scrapbook kept by Maria Louise Clough while on a trip from Boston to England, Scotland, France and Italy in 1886 and 1887. The scrapbook contains cards, correspondence, clippings, ephemera, and realia (including plant material), and provides insight into the activities and tastes of a young woman from that period of time. Among the contents are: Cunard ephemera (including deck plans, menus, passenger list), theatre ephemera (including Henry Irving in Faust at the Lyceum), a cigarette, lace, Westminster Abbey ephemera, transportation tickets, a moving-part Christmas card, fringe forming part of the decoration of the funeral car of the Duke of Wellington, postcards, engravings, hotel ephemera, identified leaves and flowers, etc.

Photograph album prepared in celebration of African Inland Mission's (AIM) 60-year Diamond Jubilee in 1955. The album is divided into three sections: “Jubilee 1955” contains photographs of the anniversary celebrations; “African Groups” contains photos of the organization’s churches, schools, hospital, clergy, teachers, students, and members involved in mission activities; and “Special Occasions” includes images of weddings, immunization programs, outdoor services, a leadership conference, and what appears
to be the construction and dedication of a new church.

Contains nine architectural drawings of the Bridgeport Casino created by Samuel Hamilton Townsend for the Berlin and Bridgeport Electric Street Railway. Plans include elevation towards street, elevation towards the river, southerly elevation, cross-section, northerly elevation, floor plans of the first and second floors, drawings of windows and doors, drawings of a fireplace and surround, drawings of a decorative frieze possibly above the fireplace.

A collection of reproduction Babylonian cuneiform tablets from originals at Penn Museum. Five of the tablets, including one with an envelope, have not yet been identified.

One Addiator Gesellschaft of Berlin brand slide calculator. One side is labelled "maximator" and is intended to be used for addition, while the other is used for subtraction. A small metal stylus to operate the calculator is also present.

Four large albums, entitled "Pan Politae and Friends", that contain photographs, ephemera and text, both original and copies, relative to the history of the Pan Politae Club, as well as photographs and biographical information about its members from 1938 to 1995.

The history of Pan Politae is documented through current and historical portraits, as well as photographs of activities such as reunions. The albums include photographs of fundraising projects like the Christmas tree sales and service projects events held with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) camps. Photographs depict service work done primarily in Camp Wabanaki at its original location on Beausoleil Island, Georgian Bay, which was destroyed by fire in ca. 1970.

These albums were compiled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA. Included are portraits of and information about K-W YMCA Presidents, influential members, former staff, and information about awards and recipients. Also included is correspondence addressed to Lloyd Stamp from former members of the Pan Politae Club where they discuss their experiences and reflections from their time in the club.

Material documenting Luella Creighton's student days at Victoria College, University of Toronto, 1924-1926. Her personal life is further documented through a series of diaries, 1963-1990. Most of the textual material in the fonds, however, relates to her career as a writer of both fiction and non-fiction, and consists of correspondence with her publishers and readers, reviews, manuscripts and typescripts of both published and unpublished works.

Fonds consists of materials created by the Faculty Association of the University of Waterloo (FAUW). This includes official governance records such as constitution and bylaws, minutes, committee files, board of director files, and materials relating to the Hagey lectures.

Fonds consists of Alice Hagen's correspondence, clippings, articles and ephemera relating to her work in pottery and ceramics. Includes correspondence with Elizabeth Long regarding her part in painting plates for the Canadian Senate's gift of hand-decorated china to Lord and Lady Aberdeen at the emd of the former's term as Governor General of Canada in 1898.

Fonds consists primarily of correspondence, 116 letters, from Beulah Alloway to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harley Misener of Brantford, Ont. The letters describe her journey to Africa and her daily life and work as a missionary in Kenya. Also included are newsletters sent out by the Alloways, correspondence relating to Beulah's death, and 4 photographs.

This fonds documents a social and family history spanning almost one century. It revolves primarily around three women: Elizabeth Smith Shortt, and her daughters, Muriel Clarke and Lorraine Shortt. The fonds contains family correspondence, 1880 - 1970, general correspondence 1876-1970, manuscripts, diaries, typescripts, pamphlets, clippings and photographs.

Correspondence includes Cecil B. and Senator E.D. Smith, the Smith and Shortt family letters, Adam and Elizabeth Shortt love letters, but primarily correspondence during and after the war period between Elizabeth, her daughters Muriel and Lorraine, until Elizabeth's death in 1949. Letters follow Elizabeth Smith through Queen's University, her role in formation of the Queen's Medical School for women, her concern with local and national councils of women, and a variety of clubs, commissions, and organizations. Correspondents includes Augusta Stowe-Gullen, Dr. Jennie K. Trout, Eliza Fitzgerald, Lady Ishbel Aberdeen. Also present are 15 manuscript diaries kept by E. Smith Shortt covering the period from 1872-1932 (typescript available for first 8 diaries). Diaries 1892-1911 are memoirs of Shortts' European trips. 23 diaries or day books kept by Lorraine Shortt from 1912-1943 are also present.

The fonds contains also approximately 50 manuscript addresses, reports and speeches given by Elizabeth Shortt, as well as speeches by Lorraine Shortt. About 100-150 pamphlets and leaflets on a variety of subjects document Elizabeth's interests and activities, especially war period and restoration, National Council of Women, Mother's Allowance Commission, etc. Also present are clippings from 1800-1960, original and photocopied newspaper and magazine clippings and articles arranged under about 50 headings dealing with the Shortt and Smith families, and with a multiplicity of organized groups that formed at the turn of the century. Miscellaneous documents include notebooks of Elizabeth Shortt's subjects at Queen's Medical School, certificates, records of investments, bank records, war medals, autograph books, and scrapbook belonging to the family. Photograph albums and approximately 100 loose photographs of family and friends complete this fonds.

Collection consists of artefacts from the School of Pharmacy, including pharmacy bottles and a register of poisons.

Consists of biographical information, two audio reels entitled "Between Ourselves", correspondence regarding purchase of same, and one autographed photograph.

Correspondence, manuscripts and typescripts of poetry and prose, clippings of published work and reviews. Correspondents include Nellie McClung (2 letters), Laura Goodman Salverson (1 letter) and Charles G.D. Roberts (1 letter).

Collection consists of two posters from the History of Contraception Museum. One poster shows a variety of styles of IUDs and the other shows the history of birth control methods. Also includes a brochure from the museum that identifies some of the contraceptive devices.

Fonds consists of eleven day books and two ledgers listing daily sales and corresponding customer accounts for William Kriesel's stoves and tinware store (hardware store) from 1889-1905.

One photograph album owned by Percy S. Keeting (1918-1963) with 120 photographs of daily life in Britain including trips to Isle of Man, Scotland, and Wales.

The inclusion of photos pre-dating Keeting's birth in 1914 and his parents marriage in 1906, suggests the album may have been made by Keeting's mother, Florence Mary (nee Vickers), or an aunt. Annotations appear in two hands. The first is that of the creator, and the second is possibly that of Keeting's sister Florence Mary "Billie" or a cousin who seemingly left "daft" comments next to photos in which they appear.

Annotations included by the creator of the album appear throughout identifying locations and dates. Names appear only occasionally and include Norman [Keeting?]; Adeline, Dorothy/Dot, [Billie] or [Pollie], Stewart [Keeting], Kathleen, and Annie.

Fonds consists of unpublished typescripts and manuscripts by Robert Alden Sanborn. Influenced by the work of Carl Jung, the unpublished works are predominantly related to Sanborn's interest in the social development of children and several of the drafts consist of narratives about young girls referred to as "Little Anna" and "Bunty". Also included is collected ephemera and correspondence between Sanborn and his family, colleagues and publishing contacts, including his editor Olive Burchfiel (1888-1960), as well as writing by Sanborn's mother, Mary Farley Sanborn, including a published version of "The Valor Ranch" (1914); a typescript version of the poem "My Eighth of May"; and a clipping of the poem "The Barrel-Stave."

Contains materials by and about Mary Quayle Innis. Includes correspondence written mostly to her daughter, Anne Innis Dagg from 1956 to 1968, as well as notes kept while Innis was Dean of Women at University College, 1954-1961. Also present are files compiled by Anne Innis Dagg, including a biographical essay on Mary Quayle Innis and files relating to a proposed collection of her short stories and pieces with an introduction by Anne Innis Dagg.

File consists of one typescript film script (101 p.) by Gary and Ken Ledbetter, based on stories by Ken Ledbetter. The script is a first draft and dated December, 1989, and the cover page is signed by authors.

Materials created or accumulated by Julia McCarthy during her professional and personal life. Includes journals and personal correspondence received by McCarthy, drafts of poems and anthologies, professional correspondence related to the publication of McCarthy's work, correspondence related to applications for grants and awards, awards received by McCarthy, interviews and articles about McCarthy, and work by and about other authors accumulated by McCarthy.

Fonds consists of materials relating to the personal and professional life of Isabel Ecclestone Mackay. Includes primarily prose and poetry by Mackay, as well as photographs, correspondence, scrapbooks and ephemera.

Sketchbook belonging to Helen Edmonds, dated July 1991, containing sketches in the style of Virgil Burnett. Most sketches are drawn with brown ink and feature people, landscapes, buildings, and sculptures. The sketchbook also includes watercolour sketches accompanied by notes and quotations.

Materials created or accumulated by Donna Jean MacKinnon during her professional life as a journalist. Includes articles written by MacKinnon in different news media and materials related to MacKinnon’s book Newsgirls : gutsy pioneers in Canada’s newsrooms (published in 2017), including research notes and interviews, drafts of the book in different phases, and records related to the publication of the book.

Sketchbooks and loose sketches by David Hill, American artist. Includes material relating to his death and estate, primarily correspondence to Joe Plaskett. Includes correspondence to David Hill by Virgil Burnett.

Fonds consists of records documenting most aspects of the development of the Central Ontario Art Association, the events and activities of the association, and its administration and membership in the period from its formation in 1954 to about 2000, with some gaps in coverage. The records were accumulated by various members and some organization was imposed by the association for the purpose of researching its history.

Fonds includes correspondence, membership lists, flyers, announcements, programs, newsletters, exhibitors' catalogues, minutes, reports, the association constitution and by-laws, histories, forms and questionnaires, clippings, lectures and articles, photocopied information, photographs, slides, and other material.

The Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection includes family papers the three families named; the Breithaupt family, the Hewetson family, and the Clark family. Made up of over several hundred cubic feet of archives, about 12,000 photographs, several thousand printed items and a large group of "subject and topical files" as well as plans, maps and drawings.

The largest set of family records are those related to the Breithaupt family of what is today Kitchener with the earliest documents being from the period of Liborious Breithaupt's emigration in 1843. A small group of family papers collected by Spencer Clark contains material on the Clark and Alexander families. Other families including the Devitt family of Waterloo and the Davis family of Brampton are also represented in the collection.

Also in the collection are records related to the Guild of All Arts (now the Guild Inn) in Scarborough, Ontario from its inception in 1932 to the 1980s. Founded by Rosa Breithaupt Hewetson Clark and Spencer Clark, the Guild began as a co-operative crafts community, and evolved primarily as a hotel and conference centre. In addition to Guild records, the Breithaupt Hewetson Clark collection holds smaller collections acquired by the Breithaupt family and by Spencer Clark. The personal library of Spencer Clark, which includes many books, periodicals, government documents, and ephemeral items, was donated together with the archival collections, and is particularly strong in the fields of urban planning, architecture, and Canadian art.

Eight handbound volumes. Bernt Vik attended a textile school in Sweden, possibly in Gothenburg. He and his classmates created handbound books of their notes and handouts because affordable texts from Europe and Scandinavia were not available. The volumes consist of mimeograph handouts of text, plus pasted in diagrams and illustrations. Some of the illustrations are mimeograph handouts, some are published illustrations or photographs. Also included are hand-drawn weaving diagrams as well as textile and wool samples.

Materials created and accumulated by Bernard Suits over the course of his education and teaching career. Includes materials created as a student such as class notes and exams, materials created as a professor at the University of Waterloo including course outlines and exams, published and unpublished fiction and non-fiction works, correspondence, meeting minutes, and audio and visual recordings of Suits' lectures.

Materials created and accumulated by Barbara Smucker relating to her professional activities. Primarily includes materials relating to her various published works including research, reviews, and manuscripts and typescripts.

Fonds consists of four prints titled "A.R.H." by Olivia Carvalho. The prints feature a portrait and handwriting of Alice Riggs Hunt.

Special Collections & Archives holds a variety of town guides from cities across the UK. Most significant urban centres in the British Isles are represented, and there is a comprehensive collection of guides to places which became Greater London in 1965.

The guides can provide a benchmark for assessing the very substantial changes which have affected British urban places in the past 60 years, and may be of interest to researchers in a variety of disciplines.

The town guides vary in size from a slender brochure of 30 pages for a small Urban District to large-format volumes of over 300 pages for a major City and County Borough such as Liverpool.

Fonds consists of textual and visual materials created and received by Dorney over the course of his career, including drafts and reprints of most of his published writings, teaching and course materials, audio-visual materials, framed items, ephemera and realia. Of interest is an original map by Dorney which attempts to reconstruct the original vegetation patterns in North Dumfries Township in Waterloo County in the 19th century. Dorney's collection of slides is particularly significant in its documentation of natural vegetation, urban impact and areas of ecological interest both locally and elsewhere and includes extensive documentation of the "mini-forest" at his home at 124 Amos Ave. in Waterloo.

Collection consists of 82 plans of gravel pits in Ontario. The plans have been collected by Wayne Caston, and he was involved in consulting in many of the projects. The records in this finding aid consist of information taken from an Excel spreadsheet created by Caston with details on each of the plans. A printout of the spreadsheet is also present in the collection. Plans are listed in the order originally provided by the donor on the spreadsheet.

File consists of one record with the Denny and the Dinos song Nuke the whales.

Fonds consists of records accumulated by Marcel Pequegnat in his professional roles as superintendent of the Kitchener Water Commission, vice-chairman of the Grand River Conservation Commission, and president of the Arthur Pequegnat Clock Company; and records collected by him relating to the history of these bodies.

Records relating to the Kitchener Water Commission and its predecessor, the Berlin Water Works Company, span from ca. 1887 to 1961, and are mainly from 1898 to the 1930s. Records relating to the Grand River Conservation Commission cover the period from 1939 to 1943. Includes correspondence, contracts and other legal documents, reports, minutes, architectural and technical drawings, photographs and other visual material, press clippings, ephemera, and advertising material.

Materials created and accumulated by Linda Mortsch relating to climate change and the environment.

Fonds consists of records collected and created by Judy Godfrey in her role as a member of the Muskoka Acid Rain Petition Committee and as a citizen concerned about the issue of acid rain. Material relates to Godfrey's efforts to learn about and raise awareness of acid rain and generate support for the petition for action on acid rain among Muskoka-area associations and individuals, as well as her communication with government representatives about the issue. Includes newspaper clippings, correspondence, manuscript notes, petition forms, reports and pamphlets, etc.

Fonds consists of material relating to biology, zoology and conservation interests and activities of Dr. John D. Detwiler from to 1919-1965. Includes documentation of Ontario fish hatchery investigations and brook trout feeding experiments. Includes correspondence, manuscripts and typescripts by himself and others, offprints and reprints, teaching materials, newspaper clippings and glass slides.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulated by members of the Innis family including by Anne Innis Dagg, Donald Innis and Harold Innis. Includes essays, photographs, clippings, and materials relating to the Mary Quayle Innis Foundation.

Fonds consists of material relating to the career of H.N.B.Hynes, from his work as a student at the Univeristy of London in the late 1930s through his time as a professor of biology at the University of Waterloo until his retirement in the 1980s. Includes material relating to his work on stonefiles in the British Isles, his work for the British government in Trinidad and East Africa, his time at the University of Liverpool including work on river pollution, and his career at the University of Waterloo, including his sabbaticals in Australia.

Fonds includes notebooks containing field notes, ms. and ts. notes, publications authored by Hynes and by others, reports, correspondence, maps, and photographs.

Fonds consists primarily of records relating to the operation and activities of the Grand River Conservation Commission from 1938 to 1966, mostly records maintained by successive secretary-treasurers, but including some chairman's files (William Philip), and operations files. Includes a wide range of documentation, including correspondence, financial records, minutes, personnel records, reports, maps and plans and environmental monitoring records. Documentation includes construction of the Shand and Conestogo Dams, property acquisition and management, relations and interactions with municipalities and government departments at the provincial and federal levels, flood management and monitoring, implementation and management of health care, unemployment insurance, provincial and federal taxes, rental and leasing of cottage lots and other properties, reforestation and nursery operations, management of motor vehicles and other equipment.

Typescript letter regarding lumbering on Lake Huron, Ontario written by David M. Netterfield. The letter describes the history of the Spanish River Lumber Company that operated near the Sauble River, between 1882 and the 1940's, focusing on the 20th century history of the company. Account makes reference to the Spanish River Indian Reserve, Wahnapitae, Ontario, the Great Lakes Storm of 1913 and the Mississauga Timber Reserve. Also included is a business card dated July 14, 1958, for Noranda Mines Limited located in Toronto, Ontario with a handwritten note that reads: Thought this might interest you. Hope you had a good trip. Hank. 14 July/58."

Fonds consists of correspondence, documents, journals, and a photograph relating to Colin Rankin's activity as a Fur Trader for the Hudson's Bay Company. Included are three journals kept by Donald McKay, Fur Trader, between 1799 and 1806, which were acquired by Rankin probably during his stay in the Temiskaming district.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulated by the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario : North Waterloo Region Branch. Includes operational files including minutes and finances, project and event files and ephemera, as well as a large body of subject and clipping files on local buildings, environmental bodies, and heritage organizations.

Material created or accumulated by the Honourable Andrew Telegdi related to his life and career. Records in this fonds document Telegdi’s early career as a bistro owner and rock music promoter in British Columbia as well as his experiences as a student at the University of Waterloo. In addition, the material records his work as an Executive Director for Youth in Conflict with the Law. Most notably, the fonds documents Telegdi’s extensive political career as a City and Regional Councillor as well as a Member of Parliament. Additional records capture Telegdi’s post-political career and personal activities.

A cookbook created by members of the Student Wives Club in 1964 that included recipes for meat dishes, vegetables, desserts, and odds and ends. Examples of recipes include hamburger vegetable pie, cheese salad supreme, nervous pudding, potato fudge, and pink lady punch.

The cookbook was printed with a Gestetner offset printing machine and features pink polka dot covers.

A gavel plaque given to Paul Koch (BASc ’63) in recognition of his role as the first B Term President for the Engineering Society of the University of Waterloo (now Waterloo Engineering Society) from 1958-1959. The plaque was presented to Paul Koch during Engineering Nite '63, an event hosted by the Engineering Society. Fonds consists of materials created by the Canadian Obesity Network Student and New Professional University of Waterloo chapter documenting their organizational history and activities. Includes constitution, meeting minutes, photographs, and more.

Collection comprises two separate series of items. The first are the architectural drawings that were created for the contests for both the city of Kitchener city hall and municipal buildings. These plans were created by W.H.E. Schmalz and others. The rest of the collection comprises materials created by W.H.E. Schmalz both when he was a student and a professional architect. Includes primarily maps, architectural drawings and art work.

Fonds consists of material accumulated and kept by Ross Dixon relating to his entrepreneurial interests, career, and personal life, and to the philanthropic activities of Ross and Doris Dixon. The material documents some aspects of his personal interests and childhood, his early career, and his career in industrial relations at Uniroyal Canada (formerly the Dominion Rubber Company).

A significant portion of the fonds relates to the businesses he formed outside of his professional career, the Westmount Construction Company and Westmont Enterprises Limited, for the period from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. These records document trends in suburban home-building and design during that time and include a large number of architectural drawings.

The fonds is not comprehensive, lacking documentation relating to the formation and administration of the Westmount Construction Company and Westmont Enterprises Limited and containing only a small amount of material relating the other area of his entrepreneurial activities, investment and financial services.

Fonds includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, advertising material, architectural drawings, legal documents, photographs, accounting records, reports, handwritten notes, certificates, speeches, company publications, minutes, financial statements, ephemera, and other material.

One register book kept by the Ontario Association of Architects for the years 1890-1899. The book lists dues paid by each member of the association as well as money received for exam fees, filing articles, student fees and more. Also includes one item of correspondence from Mills & Hutton, architects asking the secretary for information on rates for architectural work. The register was kept by William R. Gregg.

Materials relating to the professional life of Michael Bird. Covers his time teaching at Renison University College, as well as his research and publications on folk art, fraktur, religious imagery and film.

The Jim Guy collection consists of materials accumulated by Jim Guy relating to his family home at 110 John Boulevard in the Westmount region of Waterloo. Includes architectural plans and specifications as well as home movies and slides showing the home and surrounding area.

Fonds consists of materials created and accumulated by Bill Thomson relating to his professional life. Includes materials relating to projects that he consulted on, materials relating to teaching responsibilities at the University of Waterloo, and speeches given at a variety of events.

Fonds consists of two sketchbooks relating to A.G Shoosmith's studies at the Royal Academy Schools in London, England.

File consists of three architectural drawings of the building of the Berlin [Kitchener] Y.M.C.A. at 22 Queen Street North. Includes a side elevation, main and upper floor plans, and details of the locker room.

The nucleus of this collection, begun by the University of Waterloo's first dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. R. Stanton and the University's first librarian, Mrs. Doris Lewis, during the 1960's, is 45 editions of Euclid's Elements of Geometry. The collection has continued to be developed as a special collection. A collection of 110 nineteenth century mathematics books was acquired in 1981.

The earliest edition of Euclid's Elements of Geometry is dated 1505 (D0128). Another early Latin edition (D1029) is dated 1510. This unique work is also bound in a palimpsest parchment, which shows traces of effaced Hebrew text. This particular edition is also a so-called "ghost edition" where for many years bibliographies listed it as having been printed in the year 1515, a mistake in reading the date in the colophon.

The collection includes the first translation of the Elements into a modern language (1543, D0126), and the first edition printed in France (1516, D0272).

The first English language edition (1570, D0127) is an important edition that features pop-up figures of polyhedrons to help learners visualize Euclidean shapes. It is also includes the most comprehensive notes on Euclid to that point, also written by translator Henry Billingsley. The preface is also of note, as it was written by John Dee, alchemist and more to Queen Elizabeth I. The printer was John Daye, one of the preeminent printers of Post-Reformation England. At some point in the lived history of the book conservation work was done and binder's waste in the form of 14th century mss were discovered.

One of the most famous forays into pedagogical experimentation is the Byrne edition, using coloured printing (1847, G1947). Created by mathematician Oliver Byrne, it covers the first 6 books of Euclid's Elements of Geometry, and attempts to present Euclid's proofs in terms of pictures using only primary colours. It was published by William Pickering and printed by Chiswick Press. Although it was, and still is, considered an important item in the history of printing, it unfortunately directly contributed to the bankruptcy of the firm six years later.

The collection includes 9 of the 46 editions listed by Thomas-Stanford in his Early Editions of Euclid's Elements (which lists editions published prior to 1600), some of which are of "great rarity" according to Thomas-Stanford. The collection is particularly useful in showing the transmission and teaching of the Elements from almost the earliest printed form to modern texts.

The Indigenous publications collection is a selection of published holdings held by Special Collections & Archives related to Indigenous peoples in Canada and abroad, with a primary focus on First Nations, Inuit, Métis communities. The collection consist of of books, periodicals, zines, and other published materials, produced by, about, and in the language(s) of various Indigenous peoples and communities.

Titles in this collection are varied in topic and will be of interest to those interested in grassroots activism, self-determination governance, land rights and stewardship, community building, and settler and religious colonialism.

Fonds consists of materials relating to the life and career of Jerzy Pindera, with a specific focus on his time in World War II and as a prisoner of war in Sachsenhausen concentration camp during the Holocaust. Includes correspondence, articles, war records and short stories, as well as tapes of interviews conducted with Pindera.

Fonds consists primarily of materials accumulated by Elizabeth Long relating to women and women's issues. Includes clippings files on famous women and women's issues, radio letters from her programming, correspondence and materials relating to her activities.

Materials related to Reverend Alfred Henry Tyrer’s books and publications on birth control, sex education, and marriage life.

Includes pamphlets and order forms for Tyrer’s books Where did we come from, mother dear? (Marriage Welfare Bureau, 1939) and Sex, marriage and birth control (Marriage Welfare Bureau, 1936), and ephemera related to the books and the Marriage Welfare Bureau.

Also contains booklet Marriage welfare : some facts about birth-control by Reverend Alfred Henry Tyrer which acted as promotional material for the book Sex, marriage and birth control. Booklet includes sections: Birth-control, the population problem, definition of birth-control, birth control and war, mothers who die in child-birth, infant mortality, birth control vs. infanticide, birth-control vs. abortions, birth-control vs. degeneracy and disease, birth-control vs. prostitution, economics and birth-control, divorce, religion and birth-control, the present status of birth-control, a prairie marriage.

Materials were enclosed in an envelope sent from Ontario on July 10, 1941, and with a letter addressed to Steve E. Chorney from Ranfurly (Alberta) acting as an introduction to the publications and explaining their importance.

The British Women's Periodicals Collection is made up of some 35,000 issues of British women's magazines published from 1893 to 1977. The majority of titles were published by the Amalgamated Press and publishers which it absorbed, and many copies are, in fact, copies from the publishers' own archives. Most titles in the collection are very rare.

Because these magazines were aimed at a mass market audience, the British Women's Periodicals Collection offers a unique opportunity to examine the interests and concerns of British women during the time period covered. The collection's content is primarily "popular" fiction written for a female audience, but magazines for children and youth are also well represented. Cooking, crafts, advice columns, fashion, health, and inspirational topics are also featured. Of particular interest are the advertisements, which illustrate contemporary attitudes in a vivid manner.

Collection consists of material regarding Frances Loring and Florence Wyle, their careers as sculptors, and their artwork. Includes clippings, photographs, and biographical information.

Typescript lectures given during séances held under the supervision of medium Thomas Lacey in Waterloo, Kitchener, and Hamilton from 1934 to 1951. Some lectures and a press clipping featuring a letter to the editor against capital punishment written by Thomas Lacey are contained within a scrapbook. Lectures range from various topics including life and death, peace, Gandhi, and spiritualism.

A collection of 23 prospectus, mail order catalogues, and subscription requests for erotic books. The prospectus are couched in the terms of literature, anthropology and sexology in attempts to disguise the erotic nature of the works.

One photograph album of 91 photos from Newfoundland and Labrador, ca. 1890. The images show men and women hunting, fishing, exploring nature and visiting with Inuit communities. The photographs were taken in St. John's (showing Signal Hill, the harbour, and the city skyline), along the Humber River (at Big Falls, Steady Brook, and Bay of Islands), and in Labrador (at Nain, Cape Harrison and Hawke Harbour).
