Part of Yvonne Crnko fonds.
This scrapbook contains newspaper and magazine clippings which trace the early years of the Dionne quintuplets who were born in Callander, Ont. Many of these clippings are undated and the source for them is unidentified. They reflect the high level of publicity surrounding the girls' lives. These clippings include information on the quints' birth and parentage, and trace their development as babies, and then as toddlers and young children while they were under the care of a government-run nursery in Callander, Ont. which was managed by Dr. Dafoe.
This scrapbook contains numerous reproductions of baby and childhood photographs of the quints which appeared in the press. The majority of these photographs were taken by Fred Davis, official photographer for the quints and employee of the Toronto Star. Many of these photographs were taken on occasions such as the quints' birthdays, or at Christmas or Easter. Photographs and profiles of Dr. Dafoe and of the nursing staff for the quints are also contained in this scrapbook. Some clippings report on the flood of tourists to Callander, Ont. to view the quints. Other clippings relate to a feature film entitled "The County Doctor" to be made about the quints.
Crnko, Yvonne
Part of Yvonne Crnko fonds.
This scrapbook contains newspaper and magazine clippings which trace the lives of the Dionne quintuplets from ca. 1940-ca. 1970, as children, as teenagers, and as adults. Many of these clippings are undated and the source for them is unidentified. Numerous reproductions of photographs of the quints which appeared in the press are shown here. The majority of the childhood photographs were taken once custody of the quints had been restored to the children's parents in 1941 and the Dionne family came to live together in a new home.
One clipping reports on the death of the quints' physician Dr. Dafoe of pneumonia and includes details of his lifetime achievements including his acclaimed care of the Dionne quintuplets. The remaining clippings report on key events in the lives of the quintuplets including their education and careers. Some clippings report on the marriages of Annette, Cecile, and Marie, while others report on the birth of children to these three quintuplets. Other clippings report on the sudden deaths of two of the quintuplets, Emilie and Marie. Two clippings relate to an article which appeared in McCall Magazine in which the remaining quintuplets give an account of their homelife with their parents in Callander, Ont.

Scrapbook containing loose and pasted-in clippings, as well correspondence (letters and cards), speech notes, invitations, programs, photographs, and other ephemera predominantly relating to Dr. S.F. Leavine's election as Mayor of Kitchener in 1949. Included are notes of congratulations; coverage of the mayoralty race and Leavine's activities as mayor; his participation on various city boards and commissions, including the Service Welfare Committee; and a proclamation signed by Mayor Leavine declaring that "Brotherhood Week" is to be observed in Kitchener from February 19-26, 1950, along with a photo from a related event. Also included is a typed welcoming speech made by Mayor Leavine at an unspecified event.
One of the loose photographs depicts "The Walking Mayor", as he came to be known, pictured on his daily walk to work as Mayor of Kitchener. A second photograph appears to have been taken on election day in 1955 when Dr. S.F. Leavine ran as the Progressive Conservative candidate in the Waterloo North constituency. The final photograph was taken at the official opening of the Carmicheal School Addition on March 7, 1950 which was attended by Mayor Leavine.
The loose clippings cover: Leavine's recommended changes to the Criminal Code as a means of bringing youth gang activity under control; a Waterloo North Conservative Progressive picnic at Waterloo Park in August, 1952 which was attended; and Leavine's nomination to contest the Waterloo North constituency in 1955.
