SCA300-GA336 · Collection · 1890-1925

Collection consists of two scrapbooks maintained by William Phillips. The first includes clippings from newspapers and magazines that date from 1890 to 1914. The notes were sent from friends and family of William Phillips including his wife Elizabeth, sister Fanny, brother John Edward and father Joseph. The notes primarily came through medium P.L.O.A. My Quints Sketch Book I.
SCA135-GA108-1 · File · 1934-1938
Part of Yvonne Crnko fonds.

This scrapbook contains newspaper and magazine clippings which trace the early years of the Dionne quintuplets who were born in Callander, Ont. Many of these clippings are undated and the source for them is unidentified. They reflect the high level of publicity surrounding the girls' lives. These clippings include information on the quints' birth and parentage, and trace their development as babies, and then as toddlers and young children while they were under the care of a government-run nursery in Callander, Ont. which was managed by Dr. Dafoe.

This scrapbook contains numerous reproductions of baby and childhood photographs of the quints which appeared in the press. The majority of these photographs were taken by Fred Davis, official photographer for the quints and employee of the Toronto Star. Many of these photographs were taken on occasions such as the quints' birthdays, or at Christmas or Easter. Photographs and profiles of Dr. Dafoe and of the nursing staff for the quints are also contained in this scrapbook. Some clippings report on the flood of tourists to Callander, Ont. to view the quints. Other clippings relate to a feature film entitled "The County Doctor" to be made about the quints.

SCA141-GA114 · Accession · 1895-1997, predominant 1950-1997
Part of Concordia Club fonds.

The majority of the archives of the Concordia Club were destroyed either as a result of the ransacking of the club by the 118th Batallion in 1916, or as a result of the fire of November 17, 1971. As a result the earliest records of Concordia have largely been lost forever. A very small number of items can be traced back to the Concordia Male Choir (1873-1914). These take the form of two items of correspondence, programs for the "Sängerfests", clippings, and photographs. A small number of archival records also can be found which belonged to the "Deutscher Club, Kitchener" (1925-1930), and include a set of house rules, letters patent, and photographs. Some records from the 1930s have also been preserved to this day, and include artifacts, clippings, legal documents, a membership list, photographs, and programs of events. However, the majority of the materials date from the 1950s onwards. These materials document the history of the Concordia Club since the 1950s, and include artifacts, audiovisual material, clippings, correspondence, ephemera, financial records, legal documents, membership records, minutes of meetings, photographs, publications, and scrapbooks.

The albums include photographs of fundraising projects like the Christmas tree sales and service projects events held with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) camps. Photographs depict service work done primarily in Camp Wabanaki at its original location on Beausoleil Island, Georgian Bay, which was destroyed by fire in ca. 1970.

These albums were compiled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA. Included are portraits of and information about K-W YMCA Presidents, influential members, former staff, and information about awards and recipients. Also included is correspondence addressed to Lloyd Stamp from former members of the Pan Politae Club where they discuss their experiences and reflections from their time in the club.

One photograph album owned by Percy S. Keeting (1918-1963) with 120 photographs of daily life in Britain including trips to Isle of Man, Scotland, and Wales.

The inclusion of photos pre-dating Keeting's birth in 1914 and his parents marriage in 1906, suggests the album may have been made by Keeting's mother, Florence Mary (nee Vickers), or an aunt. Annotations appear in two hands. The first is that of the creator, and the second is possibly that of Keeting's sister Florence Mary "Billie" or a cousin who seemingly left "daft" comments next to photos in which they appear.

Annotations included by the creator of the album appear throughout identifying locations and dates. Names appear only occasionally and include Norman [Keeting?]; Adeline, Dorothy/Dot, [Billie] or [Pollie], Stewart [Keeting], Kathleen, and Annie.
