Next to it is a newspaper clipping regarding the death of Fiske titled "Death of Mrs. Gen. William O. Fiske".

Also contains two letters in German dated November 30 and December 2, 1861 from M. Strauss, Buffalo, N.Y.

          File consists of one day book belonging to Louis Breithaupt. The pages are numbered by hand to p. 60 and are variously headed "Buffalo" and "Berlin". It is uncertain whether handwriting is contemporary or added later by Louis Jacob Breithaupt,.

          p. 1-53 contain entries from June 1852 to Oct. 1861 relating to his business in Buffalo, N.Y. [and probably Berlin as well as of 1857].
          p. 54-55 written on by Louis J. Breithaupt, Jan. 7, 1870. "Facts" and penmanship practice.
          p. 56 accounts resume at Nov. [1861?] Page is headed "Breithaupt & Strauss". Accounts appear to relate to business in Berlin. P. [68] contains an entry on Oct. 20 [1862?] relating to balance "Schoellkopf " according to statement. Page is headed "Buffalo, September 1861" in an unidentified handwriting.
          p. [70] ends with entry for Jan. 1863. Page [71] overleaf starts at Nov. 18, 1865 and is weekly accounts, including wages paid to named individuals in "Beam House", "Currier Shop", "Yard." P. [78] headed "Berlin Dec. 23rd 1865" contains annotation: "This was written by P. Cress: all on this page but this."
          Accounts continue to p. [185] ending with June 22, 1867.
          p. [186] begins day book described on end leaf as "Team book kept by Louis J. Breithaupt Berlin, Ont., 1869-1870. The first entry is dated Aug. 13, 1869. Entries concern loads carried by various teams, what was carried and where carried to, threshing, plowing, etc.. LJB would be 15 years old at this time. Ends at p. [236], entry for Sept. 15, 1870.
          P. [237 blank].
          P. [238] contains inscription: "L.J. Breithaupt, Berlin, Ont., student of Berlin Central School, Berlin Ontario, Sept. 15, 1870. Page also contains a list of "Old bricks for inside wall of house."
          P. [239] contains a list of "Boarders: when they come and when leave."

          The fonds consists of a single diary kept by Jane Urquhart from 1974 to 1981, before she began her writing career, and documents primarily several trips to Europe taken with Tony Urquhart. This diary served as a sketchbook, journal and trip diary, and contains drawings and sketches, photographs, ephemera, plant material, etc. Its 258 pages contain 71 sketches, drawings and watercolours including 27 by Tony Urquhart, 32 by Jane Urquhart, 2 by Michael Ondaatje and 10 by other artists.

          Fonds consists of one diary maintained by Emma Clough of Hudson, New York from the period January 10-March 19, 1884. Emma travels to Washington after visiting friends in New York city and her diary details her tourist activities in both cities. In Washington she meets President Arthur as well as Blanche K. Bruce the first Black Senator, Frederick Douglass, Belva Lockwood, Helen Gougar, Susan B. Anthony and others. Along with shopping, visiting acquaintances and attending social functions, in early March of 1884 Emma begins to attend suffrage meetings which are detailed in the diary.

Entries are dated and sporadic, are written in pencil, and include a chart of the names of soldiers from the 16th Platoon, with their identification number, rank, age, marital status, date of arrival in France, religion, next of kin, trade, and courses. Includes a loose leaf of paper in the front pocket of the notebook, and several blank pages. The diary entries are titled "My diary since leaving the 'Ypres Salient'", and detail the movement of troops, destinations, times leaving and arriving places, encampments, training progress, weather, distances from place to place in kilometres, locations of battles, places billeted, conditions in the trenches, descriptions of battles, objectives, conditions, attacks, general notes about casualties, tanks, mines, and descriptions of Edmonds' stay in the Paris Plaz hospital and Le Havre hospital. The diary goes up until just before Vimy Ridge, when Edmonds is invalided home.

          Ca. [120] p. ms. diary contained in notebook with metal clasp kept by J. H. Shoults. This diary covers the period Jan. 1, 1873 to Dec. 31, 1873 and contains daily entries recording personal, social, and professional activities, as well as accounts of weather conditions. The diary entries indicate that Shoults moved during this year from Altona to Little Britain. Diary entries relate to Shoults' activities as a minister and include the names of the places where he preached and of the Bible readings which formed the basis for his services. Reference is also made to the many church meetings he participated in, to Christian conferences, to funerals he attended, and to other church activities in which he was involved. Descriptions of family, social, and parish visits are also contained in this diary, including the names of countless friends and acquaintances. Gardening activities are also described in this diary. Some budget estimates relating to personal finances are additonally included in this diary.
