There are blank forms regarding tax deductions and employment contracts for English-speaking classes, along with newspaper clippings that cover registration for and advertisements of these classes in Kitchener. The fonds also includes other promotional pamphlets and cards for the classes and for the Council in general, along with lists of winners for the Council's scholarship funds and names of contributors.

During the post-war period, from the late 1940's to the 1960's, a significant amount of Lesbian material became available amidst the proliferation of popular fiction published as paperback originals (sometimes referred to as "pulp" fiction). Some authors represented in this collection are: Ann Bannon, Paula Christian, Valerie Taylor, Artemis Smith, Randy Salem, March Hastings, Gale Wilhelm, Marion Zimmer Bradley (writing under the names Lee Chapman and Miriam Gardner), and Marijane Meaker (writing under the names Ann Aldrich and Vin Packer).

The collection consists of 350 titles from the personal library of the philosopher and man of letters, George Santayana (1863-1952). The subject focus of this portion of Santayana's library, purchased by the University of Waterloo Library during the 1960's, could be characterized as interdisciplinary, with works in philosophy, literature, religion, and history. Many of the books were presented to Santayana by their authors. The collection is supplemented by reference and critical materials related to the life and work of Santayana as well as editions of Santayana's own writings. First or early editions of most of Santayana's works are included.

One of the most interesting and significant features of the Library of George Santayana is that many of the books from his personal library contain annotations in his own handwriting. These notes reveal his opinions and thoughts about the writings of others. The collection includes Santayana's own copies of his three-volume autobiography, with his corrections and notes to his publisher.

Fonds consists of two scrapbooks maintained by William Phillips. The first includes clippings from newspapers and magazines that date from 1890-1914. Included are articles on topics relating to spiritualism, advertisements for mediums, and advertising for spiritualism products including the Ouija board. These materials are glued into "A History of Europe" and most clippings feature underlining of important sections.

The second scrapbook includes both clippings as well as handwritten notes from the spirit world. The notes were sent from friends and family of William Phillips including his wife Elizabeth, sister Fanny, brother John Edward and father Joseph. The notes primarily came through medium P.L.O.A. Keeler at Lily Dale. Most of the clippings are advertisements for publications relating to spiritualism and the occult.

Fonds consists of four large albums, entitled "Pan Politae and Friends", that contain photographs, ephemera and text, both original and copies, relative to the history of the Pan Politae Club, as well as photographs and biographical information about its members from 1938 to 1995.

The history of Pan Politae is documented through current and historical portraits, as well as photographs of activities such as reunions. The albums include photographs of fundraising projects like the Christmas tree sales and service projects events held with the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) camps. Photographs depict service work done primarily in Camp Wabanaki at its original location on Beausoleil Island, Georgian Bay, which was destroyed by fire in ca. 1970.

These albums were compiled to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kitchener-Waterloo YMCA. Included are portraits of and information about K-W YMCA Presidents, influential members, former staff, and information about awards and recipients. Also included is correspondence addressed to Lloyd Stamp from former members of the Pan Politae Club where they discuss their experiences and reflections from their time in the club.

Scrapbook of manuscript notes, clippings, leaflets, handbills and other ephemera concerning the local government in London, England, from 1886 to 1892. Some of the clippings are accompanied by handwritten annotations. The scrapbook has a front pocket that holds several loose-leaf notes, clippings, and pamphlets.

Clippings cover a wide range of topics concerning the London County Council and Kensington Parliament such as meetings, motions, tax reforms, public addresses, as well as news about the law and parliamentary committees.

Also included in the file is an index of recipes and the original seller's note.

Records relating to the Kitchener Water Commission and its predecessor, the Berlin Water Works Company, span from ca. 1887 to 1961, and are mainly from 1898 to the 1930s. Records relating to the Grand River Conservation Commission cover the period from 1939 to 1943. Includes correspondence, contracts and other legal documents, reports, minutes, architectural and technical drawings, photographs and other visual material, press clippings, ephemera, and advertising material.

Margaret Schreiter was "Camp Mother" at Camp Tinawatawa on Paradise Lake near Waterloo, Ontario between 1952 and 1959. The materials contained in this fonds include reports, the texts of presentations given by Margaret Schreiter, the outline of a discussion at a camp counsellors meeting led by Margaret Schreiter, correspondence, an ms. list, and a camp newspaper. These items help document Y.W.C.A. camping activities at the time.

Fonds consists of one scrapbook kept by Maria Louise Clough while on a trip from Boston to England, Scotland, France and Italy in 1886 and 1887. Among the contents are: Cunard ephemera (including deck plans, menus, passenger list), theatre ephemera (including Henry Irving in Faust at the Lyceum), a cigarette, lace, Westminster Abbey ephemera, transportation tickets, a moving-part Christmas card, fringe forming part of the decoration of the funeral car of the Duke of Wellington, postcards, engravings, hotel ephemera, identified leaves and flowers, etc.

Collection consists of 82 plans of gravel pits in Ontario. The plans have been collected by Wayne Caston, and he was involved in consulting in many of the projects. The records in this finding aid consist of information taken from an Excel spreadsheet created by Caston with details on each of the plans. A printout of the spreadsheet is also present in the collection. Plans are listed in the order originally provided by the donor on the spreadsheet.

Fonds consists of negatives and proof prints taken by Robert T.G. Nicol under the name of Personal Studio between 1946 and 1996. Studio, home portraits and candid photography of families and weddings, as well as commercial jobs for many local industries and businesses document comprehensively the growth and changes in the way of life in the Waterloo Region in the post-war era. Many nationally important companies employed Nicol, some as their "house photographer": these include B.F. Goodrich, Budd Automotive, Mutual Life Insurance Co., Bell Telephone, Electrohome, Raytheon, IBM and Greb Shoes. Many types of businesses are represented: storefronts and interiors of banks, clothing, department, music, furniture and grocery stores, dairies, factories, restaurants, hotels and motels, churches, service stations, car dealerships, service industries, construction trades and more.

Collection consists of 169 19th century American photographs. Included are 115 carte-de-visites, 40 cabinet portraits, 2 albums, 11 miscellaneous photographs and 1 envelope of miscellaneous business and greeting cards.

The photographs vary in size, but many of are 1 x 1 cm and mounted on card. Most are albumen type photographs depicting various people including infants, children, and adults. The photographs come from various studios across the United States though the majority come from studios in New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Illinois. The photographs, since rehoused, were originally housed in two albums decorated with an intricate relief on the cover and a metal clasp lock.

  1. Richard Knight and Elizabeth Collyer to John Hilde, assignment of lease of land, July 20, 1738;
  2. John Ball and Elizabeth Ball to John Hyde, partitioning of land, Dec. 23, 1754;
  3. John Ball and wife to John Hyde, assignment of land, Mar 14, 1757;
  4. George Elwes and John Elwes to Mr. George Lockett, reassignment of land, Apr 28, 1801;
  5. Benjamin Wall and Joseph Malden, lease, May 31, 1852;
  6. George Lockett to George Winter, reassignment of land, July 3, 1862 and George Winter to John Wright reassignment of land and John Wright to John Hyde reassignment of land.

Fonds consists of a recipe binder of recipes collected from newspapers, accumulated by an unknown person. Recipes were collected from the Toronto Star, the Guelph Daily Mercury, The Guelph Shopper, and others. Many of the recipes from the Toronto Star are from Jean Brodie. Also includes a candy recipe card from the Guelph city gas department. The binder that the recipes were stored in is a directory of Guelph businesses, ca. 1960s.

7 p. ms. report dictated by Rear-Admiral Charles Holmes for his superiors, recounting in detail the events of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. Major-General James Wolfe captured Quebec on Sept. 13, 1759, but died on the battlefield. His opponent, the Marquis de Montcalm died the next day. Holmes dictated a detailed account of the battle and sent two copies on separate ships to the British Admiralty. This document is the second copy of that report.
