Oberlander, Helmut.

Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament documenting the opinions of some constituents as well as Telegdi’s political involvement in the denaturalization and deportation case against Helmut Oberlander, a suspected war criminal. Oberlander was a resident of Andrew Telegdi’s constituency. Records include a biographical sketch of Oberlander, reports, articles, research material, and correspondence between Telegdi, constituents, associations, corporate entities, and fellow politicians including Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada. One item of correspondence from a constituent includes a copy of a booklet titled, Communism: The Unpublished Crime by S. Astons published in 1986.

Bill C-16 Citizenship of Canada Act.

Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his appointment as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration related to Bill C-16 Citizenship of Canada Act. The material documents Telegdi’s work initially supporting the new bill as well as his later concerns regarding section 17 and 18 of Bill C-16. Many of the documents highlight Telegdi’s efforts to implement changes to section 17 and 18 and solicit support from fellow politicians and members of the public. Also includes correspondence from members of the public, copies of Telegdi’s official resignation letter submitted to Jean Chrétien, Prime Minister of Canada, and related material. Records include correspondence from individuals and associations, new releases, speech transcripts and notes, reports, copies of an opinion article written by Telegdi for the Toronto Star, and other textual material.

Includes a set of questions prepared for David Johnston, President, University of Waterloo (UW), correspondence and notes related to various topics such as conferences, Faculty Association of the University of Waterloo (FAUW) membership fees, sabbaticals, academic freedom, and workload. File also contains records related to negotiations in 2003 including the proposed mandate, terms of reference, and guiding principles of the academic librarian negotiations, correspondence, meeting notes, a list of twelve needs and issues related to librarians’ terms and conditions of employment written by Anne Fullerton, Librarian, a list of changes required to incorporate librarians into FAUW’s Memorandum of Agreement, and the final report on the outcomes of the discussions of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Librarians’ Issues. File additionally includes results of a survey distributed to librarians in April 2004 to determine if they wanted to be represented by FAUW, correspondence from 2005 about the potential to re-open the discussion on faculty representation, and other textual records.
