      General note

51-2249_004 and 51-2249_007 appeared on Page 14 of the Saturday, August 4, 1951 edition of the newspaper as part of the article: "Farmer Has Varied Woods in Collection".

      General note

Photo caption from published version of 51-2249_004: "ARROWHEAD COLLECTION - Bulk of W. C. Barrie's collection of 119 Indian arrowheads was picked up on his Galt district farm. Naomi McLeod, left, and Eleanor Taylor, right, both of R.R. 7, Galt, admire the mounting which he made to take the collection on tour."

      General note

Photo caption from published version of 51-2249_007: "WOOD STAIN - This is a section of the red oak trunk which has two black stains running perpendicular to a height of 4 1/2 feet. A fence stapled to the tree 40 years ago was the cause."

      General note

"Indian" is an outdated term used historically to refer to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada which many find offensive. The use of the term in the file title has been maintained in keeping with Special Collections & Archives’ approach to language in archival descriptions, which prioritizes speaking openly about and clearly identifying problematic, harmful, and otherwise offensive records in the department’s holdings. This approach, while potentially upsetting, allows for the critical assessment and questioning of historical material by contemporary researchers.
