Materials related to the personal and professional life of A. R. Kaufman and his family. Includes family photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, physical objects, and ephemera created or accumulated by the family throughout the years. Contains family records and photographs accumulated during A. R. and Jean Kaufman's lives, materials related to A. R. Kaufman's personal affiliations (such as masonic orders), materials accumulated from trips and travels across the world, materials related to A. R. and Jean Kaufman's professional life and affiliations, and awards and recognitions received by A. R. Kaufman.

Fonds consists of material relating to the personal life and interests of A.R. Kaufman, as well as information about his parents and family, preserved by him. The fonds contains biographical information such as clippings, interviews and awards, scrapbooks maintained by A.R. Kaufman relating to birth control, photographs, and autobiographical accounts by A.R. Kaufman of trips taken to England and France in 1929, around the world in 1958, and to Russia in 1963. It also includes material about Jacob and Mary Kaufman in the form of clippings, biographical accounts written by A.R. Kaufman, correspondence and other material relating to their estates and photographs.

The verso of the photograph indicates it was taken September 22, 1955 when Ventura was 32. Her aliases are listed as Rose Pena and Rose Garduna and she was arrested for the crime of abortion.

Collection consists of five advertisements for Lanteen diaphragms and spermicidal jelly. The advertisements each feature a "curiosa of conception" which includes a fact about conception or childbirth and an accompanying woodcut illustration. Illustrations are by Antonio Frasconi.

Collection consists of F.W. Wegenast's material relating to the trial of Dorothea Palmer. It contains correspondence, manuscripts, typescripts of court examinations, arguments used in court, research materials, documents, printed and published items, and clippings relating to the case Rex vs. Palmer.

Accrual consists of materials created and accumulated by the Kaufman family, including materials created during their personal and professional lives and by Kaufman Rubber and Footwear. Includes photographs, materials relating to the William H. Kaufman Charitable Foundation, personal records, Kaufman Rubber and Kaufman Footwear records and ephemera, and three scrapbooks relating to birth control in Canada.

Materials related to Reverend Alfred Henry Tyrer’s books and publications on birth control, sex education, and marriage life.

Includes pamphlets and order forms for Tyrer’s books Where did we come from, mother dear? (Marriage Welfare Bureau, 1939) and Sex, marriage and birth control (Marriage Welfare Bureau, 1936), and ephemera related to the books and the Marriage Welfare Bureau.
Also contains booklet Marriage welfare : some facts about birth-control by Reverend Alfred Henry Tyrer which acted as promotional material for the book Sex, marriage and birth control. Booklet includes sections: Birth-control, the population problem, definition of birth-control, birth control and war, mothers who die in child-birth, infant mortality, birth control vs. infanticide, birth-control vs. abortions, birth-control vs. degeneracy and disease, birth-control vs. prostitution, economics and birth-control, divorce, religion and birth-control, the present status of birth-control, a prairie marriage.

Materials were enclosed in an envelope sent from Ontario on July 10, 1941, and with a letter addressed to Steve E. Chorney from Ranfurly (Alberta) acting as an introduction to the publications and explaining their importance.

This collection, funded by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and Kaufman Footwear of Kitchener, Ont., consists of about 400 items published between 1906 and the 1980's related to the British birth control pioneer, Dr. Marie Stopes. A collection of archival material, the Marie Stopes archive, complements the book collection.

Included are first and scarce editions of Marie Stopes' writings on contraception, her early works in the fields of botany and geology, as well as much of her literary output. First and variant editions of her best-known books, Married Love, and Wise Parenthood, both published in 1918, are also present. The collection includes first editions of Stopes' first two published works, The Study of Plant Life for Young People (London, 1906, call number F9984), and Ancient Plants (London, 1910, call number G7956).

The collection contains an extensive selection of supporting materials about contraception and family planning by other authors. Highlights include Annie Besant's pamphlet, Law of Population (London: n.d., call number F11010), early issues of the journal, Birth Control News (call number HQ763.B46x), L. Darwin's What is Eugenics (1932, call number F9966), and W. J. Robinson's Fewer and Better Babies (New York: 1934, call number F10053).

Collection consists of materials relating to the personal and professional life of Marie Stopes as well as to the history of birth control. Includes biographical materials, articles and ephemera related to birth control, correspondence, and ms. drafts of a biography of Stopes by Ruth Hall.

One kit sent to parents who were prescribed contraceptive jelly and pessaries from the Parents' Information Bureau by their doctor. Includes: one item of correspondence signed by Anna Weber, R.N.; contraceptive price list; pamphlet on birth control methods; instructions for use of pessary and jelly; better babies pamphlet.

Accrual consists of material belonging to A.R. Kaufman relating to the incorporation and operation of the Parents' Information Bureau in Kitchener, 1935 to 1976. Includes letters patent, financial and accounting records, publications issued by the Bureau, photographs and clippings.

Collection consists of two posters from the History of Contraception Museum. One poster shows a variety of styles of IUDs and the other shows the history of birth control methods. Also includes a brochure from the museum that identifies some of the contraceptive devices.
