Series consists of originals and photocopies, mostly "dept. files," detailing various operations in the Waterloo plant relating primarily to the production of alcohol. Includes applications, correspondence, declarations, ephemera, legal instruments, licenses, newsletters, permits, and photographs which document commercial feed stuffs registration from 1928-1953, distilling licenses, information about exports from the plant between 1887 to 1959, imports for re-distillation 1897-1942, label approval and registration doumentation from 1927-1941, also product evidence files all dating from ca. 1960, possibly used in a legal case, documenting the brands produced and exported in the early years of the twentierth century, accompanied by declarations by former employees.

Series also includes material compiled for presentations to the Canadian government's Enterprise Development Board, which insured part of a $25 million term loan to the company from the Royal Bank of Canada in 1977. Series consists of files of photographs accumulated and used mainly by Robert Lovell in his role as Public Relations Manager (from 1963 to ca. 1988) for internal and external publicity purposes. Many photographs were taken for use in the company newsletters Sparks and Chips, Electrohome World, and Electrohome Update, and include markings for cropping and sizing.

Series includes photographs of production processes, products, events in the life of the company, employees working and participating in recreational activities, employee headshots, and other subjects. Public Relations Working Files : Electrohome Design Lecture Series

Series consists of records relating to the planning and organization of and publicity for the Electrohome Design Lecture Series held in March, 1973 and in October, 1974. The lectures, held to inform and educate entrepreneurs and designers in manufacturing and the general public about the effective use of industrial design, were planned, implemented, and sponsored by Electrohome, and conducted in co-operation with the National Design Council, the Office of Design, Department of Industry, Trade and Commerce, and the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers.

The 1973 series opened at the University of Waterloo, followed by lectures at the University of Montreal, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Manitoba. The 1974 series included lectures at the University of Toronto, the University of Manitoba, and the University of Montreal.

Series includes correspondence, memoranda; draft schedules, budgets, and itineraries; publicity materials (including news releases, brochures, press listings, etc.); press clippings; speeches and papers; biographies and curriculum vitae; and other material.

Operations : Wartime Production

Series consists of records relating to the involvement of Electrohome in the engineering and manufacture of products during WWII, including material relating to production councils from the company's three divisions (furniture and woodworking, radio and communications, and appliances and metal products), the Radio Production Alliance, the Canadian Aircraft Workers' Association, and contract renegotiation after the war. Includes photographs, correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, instruction manuals, ms. notes, technical drawings, and other material.

Museum and Archives

Series consists of material relating to the development, organization, and operation of a company museum and archives. The museum was originally established in 1967 as a centennial project and part of the 60th anniversary celebration, in order to display products produced by Electrohome since 1907. John Koegler was the company historian and museum curator.

The museum as well as the company archives were given renewed attention in preparation for the company's 90th anniversary and the production of a corporate history book in 1997. At that time, William McGregor (former vice-president of Electrohome) was involved museum administration, and Nicola McLaughlin was hired to research company history and process and manage the archives.

Series includes material relating to the day-to-day operation of the museum and archives, the collection and processing of items, and the recording of historical information. Includes forms, correspondence, memoranda, press clippings, photocopies of historical advertisements and other documents, photographs and slides, ms. notes, meeting minutes, and other material.

Series consists of visual material produced and accumulated by various personnel and departments within Electrohome. Some of the material may have been used by Robert Lovell, Public Relations Manager (1963 to ca. 1988), or his successors, as it appears that some photographs were taken for internal and external publicity purposes.

Some of the material appears to have been pulled from elsewhere in collection, probably for use in Raymond Stanton's book Visionary Thinking: The Story of Canada's Electrohome, or for other purposes associated with the 90th anniversary celebration or researching company history. Series consists of documents illustrative of some aspects of the history of beverage alcohol, particularly in North America. Contains correspondence, ephemera, manuscripts and newspapers relating to the shipment of wine and alcohol to Canada in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, to eighteenth-century distilling processes, to a single piece of ephemera relating to prohibition in Canada in the 1920's.

Material relating to the factory and its manufacturing operations, belonging to Irvin E. Weber. According to secondary sources, Irvin E. Weber joined Kaufman in 1945. His father, Irvin K. Weber, had worked at Kaufman for 52 years, starting in 1909. Some of the material in this series belonged to Irvin K. Weber and subsequently to his son Irvin E. Weber. Includes much material, such as the compound sheets, that would have originated in the Laboratory, but concerned with ingredients and costs rather than formulae and mixing. Includes correspondence, ephemera, invoices, notes, memoranda, and clippings.

Chattertonian Manuscript

File consists of one manuscript titled "Chattertonian ms." The manuscript itself is a transcribed typed copy of the original, which was compiled and written by George Catcott. Catcott was the first person to be approached by Chatterton regarding the Thomas Rowley poems. The manuscript includes passages from works by Thomas Chatterton, letters to and from Catcott and Chatterton, as well as notes by Catcott on Chatterton and the Thomas Rowley affair. Inlaid in the front of the book is a signature of Thomas Chatterton's as well as a letter addressing the authenticity of the signature. Also included is a print of George Catcott. The bookplate reads "Conrad P. Fry oneth me is me jure tenet, and this booke confesse to be quieunque me invenit."

Series also includes page proofs (i.e. before photocopying) of newsletter issues (1982-1998), correspondence and memoranda, brochures and flyers, photographs, and handwritten notes. It is not clear whether every issue of the newsletter produced is present in the series.

Most files were probably kept or acquired by Oreen Campbell, who was responsible for writing the history of the association during the 1980s.
