General note

The Ridgid Tool is a 60-inch chrome plated pipe wrench and is the mascot of the University of Waterloo Engineering Society. The wrench was made by the Ridge Tool Company in 1968 and donated by the company to the University of Waterloo in the same year. The Ridgid tool was renamed “The Tool” in 1990 because there were growing concerns that the word Ridgid had sexual connotations that promoted sexism in engineering culture.
