Images consist of a brief ceremony held at Dana Porter Library's rare book room commemorating a donation of books from The Japan Foundation. People present in the photos include Murray Shepherd, Yuzo Hatano, Consulate-General of Japan, Kunio Nakamura, Executive Director of the Japan Information Centre, and other Japanese officials. The books were intended to support various courses at Waterloo like those in architecture, dance, drama, fine arts, and geography.
Some of the donated titles included:
- a 2 set volume of The arts of Japan (1916-1995)
- An historical-cultural geography of Japan (1981)
- Japanese folk-plays (1960)
- Politics and economics in contemporary Japan (1983)
- A Japanese touch for your garden (1983)
