    Scope and content

The original costume worn by Pounce de Lion, the University of Waterloo alumni mascot, for appearances at campus and community events. Consisting of a head, bodysuit, two hand covers, and three feet covers, the costume is distinguished by a prominent dark brown mane framing the face and extending down the neck, as well as a pair of University of Waterloo branded shorts.

Designed by Caryn Macfabe of Fox Paw Creations from artist Frank Esch’s original illustrations of the mascot, the costume brought Pounce de Lion to life as a recognizable campus personality and was commissioned in 1985 in response to the mascot’s growing popularity. The costume was used for mascot appearances until it was replaced by a new version in 1991.
