Poplar tree in front of grist mill.

File consists of one photograph of a large poplar tree in front of the Snider grist Mill formerly on the west side of King Street south, Waterloo. The tree grew from a branch used as a whip by a pioneer on the 1806 trek from Pennsylvania to Waterloo. The grist mill was built in 1816 and demolished in 1927

Calendar of Events.

A 1 volume (400 p.) calendar of historical international, national and local events, organized chronologically with one page for each day of the year. According to the donor, entries date from about 1886 (although events prior to this date are recorded) and are in the handwriting of W.J. Motz, J.E. Motz and Cully Schmidt. Newspaper clippings of "Today in History" are also pasted in. An alphabetical name and subject index is present. This volumes is a condensation of local information and forms an important, albeit selective, index to the Record. Title from the contents.

John Roat's Commercial Hotel After Fire, Site of the Walper Hotel, ca. 1892.

Copy negatives from an old photograph ang Page 255 of W. V. Uttley's book "A history of Kitchener, Ontario" (1975). Taken by Sebastian Fischer, the photo is of John Roat's Commercial Hotel, at the corner of Queen and King, following a fire. One of the negatives includes a photograph of the first ambulance with nurses. Also included in the file are typed captions about the hotel and the ambulance that read:
