Includes author's note on the envelope: "Box D: additional items for the John Herbert archives, Porter Library, the University of Waterloo, Ontario. D12: Writing in the Sand: an autobiography by John Herbert. Enclosed: two chapters of the memoir, related to early gay life in Toronto: I. The Gay Village is 50 Years Old - 32 pages: 1995. II. Hallowe'en Night and Gay Bars - 14 pages: 1995. Manuscript (bound) of 46 pages. Note: This writing was read by John Herbert at Tallulah's Cabaret, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, in October of 1995, as part of a benefit program for the Lesbian and Gay Archives."
