Weather reporting gauges and equipment : correspondence.

Two pieces of correspondence relating to weather reporting equipment. The first, dated April 28, 1947, from E.F. Roberts to W. Philip, titled "Spring run off Grand River watershed 1947" describes the single recording gauging station for the entire watershed, located in Galt. The second, dated Jan. 11, 1955, is from E.F. Roberts to Marcel Pequegnat, concerns weather reporting stations to be established. Attached is a clipping describing this as Ontario's first "organized flood warning system".

Snapshots were taken during John's training in Canada and his time in Europe, and show sporting events; fellow officers and soldiers; towns, buildings, and countryside in Normandy, Belgium and Holland; tanks and other equipment; a post-war ceremony; and other subjects.

Scrapbook includes a telegram from John's parents informing him of his brother Jamie's death, ts. Information relating to battles, a letter to Jessie Martin regarding John's DSO, and other items. Clippings relate to John's involvement in the war and his decoration with the DSO by the Governor General Viscount Alexander. The scrapbook pages are not in order and have been left as found. Some pages contain identification for the photographs.

History of the Monkland Mills in Fergus, Ontario, owned by James Wilson and his sons for over 80 years. John Gartshore and Andrew Mitchell began milling in Fergus in 1835. John Gartshore and his wife Margaret (Moir) had six children; their daughter Jacqueline married James Wilson who established Monkland Mills, and another daughter Margaret married Richard Todd Wilson, who became John Gartshore Martin's grandparents.
