Interview with Aaron T. Francis.

A sound recording of an interview conducted by Dr. Anne Millar with Aaron Francis, PhD candidate, for the Oral History Hub pilot project. The interview includes discussions about Francis's family background, their decision to come to Waterloo and the path that brought them here, as well as their thoughts about the institution and where it will be at 100 years old, in 2057. Additional topics include Jamaica, Leeds, England, immigration, COM DEV, art, political science, and Francis's PhD studies. The interview was conducted virtually from Waterloo, Ontario. File also contains a transcript of the interview.

A programme outlining the events and activities of the Royal Air Forces Ex-P.O.W. Association international reunion for kriegies held in London, England from May 13-16, 1977. The programme belonged to Cameron Hill who attended the reunion.

Also includes one press clipping from an unknown publication describing a dinner held during the reunion where attendees, including more than 300 Canadians, dined with Prince Philip, consort of Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain.

A Wartime Log.

A log book published by the War Prisoners Aid of the Young Men's Christian Association in Geneva, Switzerland and given to Cameron Hill while he was a prisoner of war during the Second World War. Includes the original letter sent with the book to Cameron Hill by the Young Men's Christian Association.

Cameron filled the log book with poetry, diary entries, lists of rations, excerpts from correspondence, contact information for fellow prisoners of war that he met, and artwork completed by himself or other prisoners of war. In addition, Cameron pasted greeting cards, a photograph as well as Italian and German prisoner of war camp vouchers into the book.

Inside a pocket adhered to the back cover of the log book, Cameron stored additional items he accumulated before and after he was captured as a prisoner of war. This includes a Royal Canadian Air Force leave or pass form issued to Cameron in Halifax, Nova Scotia as well as cinema and opera house tickets for shows in England and a ticket from Iceland for an unknown event or activity. In addition, the pocket contains a Christmas card from the Vatican dated to 1942, an additional memorandum book filled with diary entries, Italian stamps, loose notes, a postal censorship slip, 1 Deutsche Mark, and a 10 Belgian franc banknote.

Spiritualist manuscript : Mr. and Mrs. Pagesmith and circle.

A manuscript notebook that records the details of séances held by a group of individuals in Weston-super-Mare, England between April 16, 1924 and February 27, 1925. The handwritten entries in the notebook describe the manner in which a circle was opened to begin the séance, any images seen or sensed, whether or not a spirit appeared, all questions and answers made by sitters and spirits, and often include a general summation of the séance. An index featuring a list of topics raised during the séances and the name of the spirit who discussed the topic is available at the back of the notebook. Inserted between page 250 and 251 is a poem handwritten on a blue card dated February 17, 1945 and addressed to Dora written by J. & A.P. In addition, the notebook contains a photograph pasted onto the verso of the flyleaf. The photograph shows four men and eight women, possibly the members of the Spiritualist circle in Weston-super-Mare, England.

Receipts.

Four receipts issued to Cameron Hill while he was temporarily stationed on the Isle of Man with leave to Bournemouth, England between May 11, 1945 and May 31, 1945.

Two of the receipts are from James Lay & Co. Limited, a clothier located in Douglas, the capital town of the Isle of Man for the purchase of a pair of pajamas and two suits. One receipt is for Cameron's tab at the Officer's Mess, R.C.A.F. Station in the town of Bournemouth dated May 29, 1945. One receipt is possibly for a hotel room or a similar accommodation also dated May 29, 1945.

An identification card issued to Cameron Hill by the Royal Air Force on May 28, 1945 while he was temporarily stationed on the Isle of Man with leave to Bournemouth, England between May 11, 1945 and May 31, 1945. The identification card includes a brief description of Cameron's height, build, eye colour, hair colour, and date of birth. In addition, a small portrait of Cameron was pasted onto the identification card.

A berthing card and meal card issued to Cameron Hill during the Second World War likely when he traveled on a troopship sailing from Halifax Harbour in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Liverpool, England between August and September 1941.

The berthing card indicates that Cameron was assigned to cabin S22, in section 3 of the Sports deck. The meal card indicates that Cameron was assigned to eat first meal (breakfast) during the second sitting at table number 28. The name of the ship that Cameron traveled on is unknown.

Notebook of a European tour.

File consists of one notebook used as a diary by Albert L. Breithaupt from June 10 to August 29, 1896, while on a trip to England, Scotland and Germany, with family members. The first entries are written in Berlin, Ontario. Of note is the entry for June 10, 1894 that gives an account of the last Sabbath in the "old church". Albert paraphrases the speech given by his mother, Catharine, with her recollections of the Sunday School in Berlin.

Scrapbook of manuscript notes, clippings, leaflets, handbills and other ephemera concerning the local government in London, England, from 1886 to 1892. Some of the clippings are accompanied by handwritten annotations. The scrapbook has a front pocket that holds several loose-leaf notes, clippings, and pamphlets.

Clippings cover a wide range of topics concerning the London County Council and Kensington Parliament such as meetings, motions, tax reforms, public addresses, as well as news about the law and parliamentary committees.
