Two copies of an information sheet for bowlers participating in the ninth annual bowlathon presented by Youth in Conflict with the Law and Community Justice Initiatives. The bowlathon was held at Victoria Bowlerama in Kitchener, Ontario and was intended to raise money for Youth in Conflict with the Law and Community Justice Initiatives. Money was collected through the cost for bowlers to participate and sponsors pledging money to support a particular bowler. Both copies of the information sheet contain handwritten notes on the verso.

Also contains material related to two forums held in Kitchener, Ontario in 2003 addressing the unemployment and underemployment of immigrants and refugees in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament related to the Canada-United States Safe Third Country Agreement. The documents provide general information about the agreement. In addition, the material captures the concerns of some constituents and associations such as Sanctuary Coalition of Southern Ontario and Jesuit Refugee Service Canada regarding the provisions of the agreement. Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament documenting his personal interest and political involvement in matters relating to Canadian-Hungarian relations. Material in this file is primarily related to the planning of events and activities across Canada commemorating the 1956 Hungarian Revolution such as conferences held by the University of Ottawa Institute for Canadian Studies and the University of Toronto, screenings of the film Freedom’s Fury and the CBC documentary The Fifty-Sixers, the opening of the NEW LIVES photographic exhibition curated by the National Arts Centre, and the development of a special stamp issued by Canada Post. Records include correspondence, invitations, brochures, press clippings, news releases, speaking notes, calendars, and other textual material. The file also contains programs for a state dinner in honour of His Excellency László Sólyom, then President of the Republic of Hungary, as well as a picture of Telegdi and Sólyom shaking hands during the event.

Moreover, the file includes a copy of a framework agreement between St. Jerome’s University in Waterloo, Ontario and Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Budapest, Hungary to develop co-operation between the two institutions in the fields of education and research.

Material accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his tenure as a Member of Parliament related to Ashley Smith, a teenager who died on October 19, 2007 while incarcerated at the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener, Ontario. Records include an information sheet containing details about Ashely Smith’s case as well as a list of questions for Stockwell Day, then Member of Parliament and Minister of Public Safety, and Rob Nicholson, then Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. The questions focus on Ashley Smith and the conditions of her confinement and death as well as the Canadian prison system. Additionally, the file includes a report containing copies of news articles from media outlets across Canada related to Ashley Smith. It is not known how or why Andrew Telegdi acquired these records.

A certificate to the Returning Officer for the electoral district of Kitchener-Waterloo certifying that Andrew Telegdi had the endorsement of the Liberal Party of Canada in the electoral district named above. The certificate was signed in Ottawa, Ontario on May 6, 2011.

Material created or accumulated by Andrew Telegdi during his post-political career related to crime prevention in the Region of Waterloo. Records include agendas, minutes, notes, and related material from the Waterloo Region Crime Prevention Council and the Crime Prevention Council of Waterloo Region Alumni Group. Andrew Telegdi was a member of the Crime Prevention Council of Waterloo Region Alumni Group. In addition, the file contains a flyer advertising a day of national remembrance and action on violence against women as well as material related to the Canadian firearms registry including a statement from the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

A program for Hilde Maria English’s memorial service held on July 9, 2006 at the Centre for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo, Ontario. The program includes a list of participants and outlines the order of the service. The service included prayers, musical performances, and tributes. The Master of Ceremony was the Honourable Justice Patrick Flynn. Andrew Telegdi delivered a eulogy for Hilde English during the memorial service. The file also includes draft copies of Telegdi’s eulogy for Hilde English, handwritten notes, and related correspondence. Andrew Telegdi was close friends with Hilde English and her husband John English.
