The tree grew from a branch used as a whip by a pioneer on the 1806 trek from Pennsylvania to Waterloo. The grist mill was built in 1816 and demolished in 1927

Coleridges Poet & Dramatic Works - page 86. Side by side with the poem it gives in ms. E. Dowden July 30, 1883." Dowden was a distinguished early scholar in the Romantic movement.
