Letter from Maggie Kempt dated Wiston Manre [Manor?], Wiston, by Biggar, July 1, 1886 to her mother Margaret Davidson describing her daughter Florence's asthma, and thanking her mother for looking after her son George on his trip to Canada. She sends all the news of visitors from Canada and says of George: "I hope George will be able to go and see our old home when he is in Berlin. Do you know the people that have Forest-Hill? He has heard so much about it that he will be disappointed if he cannot get into the house. You will find George a great politician and a fearful Tory, but I hope he won't display his views too much among a lot of radicals. He says the Canadians are nearly all Radicals." In closing she says "this courting through the telephone must be a novel arrangement."

Included in the file are newspaper clippings, writings, fabric swatches, and pressed flowers that were found in the diary.

A scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, poetry and pictorial items. Included are poetry about Kansas, items about Britain's and Germany's Royal families, fashion items, and sentimental pictures and poems. The scrapbook-maker has employed gilt and silver labels from cloth and embroidery thread to provide fancy borders for some items. Some loose pages and clippings are present, as well as loose manuscript transcriptions, with music, of four hymns, "The Ransomed of the Lord," ?A Golden Harp in Glory," "I Will Sing for Jesus" and "Never be Afraid," signed by Etta Lydia Mary White (nee Schantz). The centre pages for recording births, marriages, and deaths, have been filled in with information on the children of Tobias and Mary Schantz, up to the birth of Dorothy Etta Russell (nee White) in 1900.
