Images taken during the dedication ceremony for the rare book room at Dana Porter Library, held on June 2, 1976, at 4:00 p.m., in honour of Doris Lewis. The ceremony was open to the public. Several of the photographs show Doris Lewis standing beside the plaque dedicating the space, along with several notable attendees, including Dr. Burt Matthews, who was President of the University of Waterloo at the time; Murray Shepherd, then serving as University Librarian; and Dr. Carl Pollock, who was then Chancellor.
Lewis was the first University Librarian at the University of Waterloo, serving in that role until 1969, after which she continued as a collections development librarian. She retired at the end of July 1976.
