An account of Anne's trip to Africa in 1956, with annotations included by Anne that were added in 2013. The account covers the period from July 19, 1956-March 4, 1957. Anne travelled throughout South Africa, particularly in Gowanston [Makhanda], and then on to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. She also stopped in Mozambique on the way. The diary offers detailed accounts of the sailing to South Africa and those she meets on the ship, other researchers at Rhodes University where she is staying, social activities, the landscape and animals, and also offers comments on apartheid and race relations in both South Africa and Zanzibar.
