Fonds consists of records documenting most aspects of the development of the Central Ontario Art Association, the events and activities of the association, and its administration and membership in the period from its formation in 1954 to about 2000, with some gaps in coverage. The records were accumulated by various members and some organization was imposed by the association for the purpose of researching its history.

Fonds includes correspondence, membership lists, flyers, announcements, programs, newsletters, exhibitors' catalogues, minutes, reports, the association constitution and by-laws, histories, forms and questionnaires, clippings, lectures and articles, photocopied information, photographs, slides, and other material.

File consists of the COAA constitution and by-laws, one piece of correspondence to Gery Puley, and several loose pages from the association news bulletin. One of these pages contains the minutes of a special executive meeting in which association historian and past president William Vickers reported that he had commenced recording the historiay of the association.

Series consists of material created, collected and accumulated for the purpose of researching and writing the history of the COAA. Most files were probably kept or acquired by Oreen Campbell, who was responsible for writing the history of the association during the 1980s. Includes files containing items removed from elsewhere in the fonds for the purpose of gathering key documents for the association's history and especially those containing information about important decisions and developments.
