    Scope and content

Fonds consists of materials documenting William Dendy's personal life and career as an architectural historian. This includes materials relating to his university education, research materials for published works, research materials on the history of Canadian architecture, and other research projects such as the Forest Hill neighbourhood in Toronto, the city of Hamilton, architects Frank Darling and William Somerville, and the Massey family. Other materials relate to Dendy's teaching activities, walking tours of Toronto, and consultancy projects.

Also present are articles, article clippings, correspondence, electronic records, ephemera, manuscripts, maps, research card files, and typescript notes. Of note are approximately 5,000 negatives which include images of various neighbourhoods and buildings in Toronto taken by Dendy, and approximately 40,000 slides which include more than 17,000 images of Canadian architecture, urban space, and landscape. The slides were taken by Dendy and individually identified by him.
