General note

88-04-18_001 features Willy Nywening (centre), Stratford, on the University of Waterloo (UW) campus, learning to use her new computer, provided by Toshiba Canada. She was taking a course in computer science through the university's correspondence program. Seen with her are Dr. Don Cowan (left), UW computer science professor and director of the project, and Tod Rehm (right), general manager of the information systems division, Toshiba Canada. Nywening was one of the 50 students in various locations throughout the province involved in the special educational experiment believed to be unique in the world. Nywening and her fellow students received instructions and assignments electronically, directly from on-campus teachers. - Information via Graphic Services fonds reference file.
