Also present are: a postcard with two panels containing a photomechanical colour print of a panorama of Berlin viewed from the water tower (entitled "Bird's eye view of Berlin, Ont., Canada"), a letter from Talmon Henry to his children Margaret and Edward, and several empty envelopes.

Cover contains ms. annotation: "E.A. / Aug. 20, 1910." Also included is a pamphlet about the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, found loose inside the guidebook. Item probably belonged to Ella Anthes, acquired on her trip to Europe.

Letter from Jacob Anthes to his parents, Martin and Catharine in response to a letter from them dated May 18. After wondering if their letter was misplaced because it took longer than expected to arrive, he provides an update about the family's living situation indicating that his wife, Magdalena, is liking things better. He explains they will be moving into a home vacated by Brother Fink once it has been whitewashed and improved by Brother Wigand. Anthes notes he is so busy preaching and visiting families that he has to do all of his studying and writing at night. The remainder of the letter consists of requests to pass on well wishes to family and friends.

File consists of 28 German letters from between 1867 and 1872. The majority of the letters were written by Reverend Jacob Anthes, from the Carrick and Port Elgin areas of Ontario, to his parents Martin and Catharina Anthes, in Baden and New Hamburg in Waterloo County. They document his young family's experience living in a new place while he preached, sometimes at long-distances, attempting to convert people to the Evangelical Association Church. Included are references to the Anthes family's health and living situation, local weather and farming conditions, and happenings related to the day to day lives of people with whom he interacted.
File also includes one unidentified letter; an agreement [?] signed by Rev. Anthes, Glenlyon, Bruce Co.; and invoices, one for Martin Anthes' account at a store in New Hamburg signed by Jacob [Niebel?].

He also shares that Magdalena David, currently in Berlin, is expected in the next week. He concludes by asking that Heinrich be told to come to Sebringville to wed and that J. Wolf be advised to hold off selling half the wheat.
