Field notes were taken in various locations, including Georgian Bay, Eramosa (ON), the Appalachians, Parc national de la Gaspesie, Kentucky, Great Lakes, and Vancouver Island; some notes were taken from Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources files.

Pollution reports (file 2 of 2).

File consists of material relating to the pollution of rivers in England and Wales, and mainly includes reports on biological surveys of rivers by Hynes and other researchers. Also present are some ms. field notes and maps. Rivers surveyed are: River Lea (or Lee) (1946-1954), River Mole (1963), River Derwent (1952-1957), River Dee (1952-1959), River Lune (1961), and Backgill Burn and Smallhope Burn (1960-1963). The surveys were conducted at the request of various town councils and clerks as well as mining and chemical comapnies.

Fonds consists of material relating to the career of H.N.B.Hynes, from his work as a student at the Univeristy of London in the late 1930s through his time as a professor of biology at the University of Waterloo until his retirement in the 1980s. Includes material relating to his work on stonefiles in the British Isles, his work for the British government in Trinidad and East Africa, his time at the University of Liverpool including work on river pollution, and his career at the University of Waterloo, including his sabbaticals in Australia.

Fonds includes notebooks containing field notes, ms. and ts. notes, publications authored by Hynes and by others, reports, correspondence, maps, and photographs.

Note cards.

File consists of note cards created by Hynes. It appears there are three sets of cards: first, a set of notes from the literature on stoneflies organized by author's name and containing the article publication date as well as point-form notes by Hynes; second, a similar set of notes but pertaining specifically to Tasmanian stoneflies; and third, a set of index cards containing records of the fauna under study by Hynes found in the streams and rivers of the counties and vice-counties of the British Isles.

Also present are some ms. field notes (summaries), maps, correspondence, a graph relating to the toxicity of DDT, a photograph of smelt specimen, and tables of data relating to a Kenyan rivers. Rivers and other bodies of water surveyed are:
