Contains news clipping dated May 10, 1968 (source unspecified). One article reports that Education Minister Davis has announced that Waterloo county will not get two boards of education at least until 1970. Minister Davis says this is because he wants one or two years experience with the new system before amending the basic county plan. Another article relates to Waterloo public school teachers' salary increases, while an additional article relates to a school site swap negotiated by the Kitchener and district school board.

Equal-Opportunity Rights for Women Teachers.

Contains five news clippings. News clippings from 1980-1981 relate primarily to the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association's aim to obtain a written policy guaranteeing equal-opportunity rights for women teachers from the county board of education. One clipping from 1988 reports that the receipt of a provincial award for employment equity advances by the Waterloo county board of education is an "embarrassment". Sue Coulter, a member of this board, says that this is the case because the board has failed to live up to the honour since receiving this award.

Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario: Diamond Jubilee Award.

Contains two news clippings (Kitchener-Waterloo Record, Saturday, 7 January 1978). One of these clippings is an article reporting that the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association will be running advertisements in newspapers to ask the public to submit names of women elementary teachers who they feel have made outstanding contributions to education. The other clipping takes the form of a nomination form to be filled out by members of the public who wish to nominate a teacher for the Diamond Jubilee Award of the F.W.T.A.O.

Contains news clippings which appeared in The Globe and Mail's "Education on Trial" feature on Dec. 28 and 29, 1992. One clipping provides statistics about the Canadian educational system, another reports that there there is no consensus in terms of what Canadians expect from schools. Another article focuses on a school in Edmonton which is "a model of self-improvement". Parents' dissatisfaction with the state-run school system forms the focus of another article, while another article focuses on the debate surrounding methods of testing students in the subjects they study.

Ontario Teachers Strike to Oppose Anti-Strike Bill (Bill 274).

Contains news clippings which appeared in The Globe and Mail focusing on Ontario teachers' opposition to Bill 274 designed to prevent mass resignations submitted by teachers from taking effect on Dec. 31, 1973. This bill would instead impose compulsory arbitration to resolve disputed contract issues. Actions taken by teachers to oppose this bill included a province-wide strike on Dec. 18, 1973.

The first sixteen scrapbooks in this series have been numbered consecutively by the compiler of these scrapbooks as follows: 1-5, 7, 9, 10-11, 13-18, 20 (some scrapbooks are missing). The remaining scrapbooks have not been numbered by the compiler but also relate to W.C.W.T.A. and F.W.T.A.O. affairs and activities. These sixteen scrapbooks include materials relating to meetings, workshops, conferences, leadership courses and other events of the W.C.W.T.A. and of the F.W.T.A.O. [1]) reporting that Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. Alice Bullard, Velma Samuel, Mrs. Irene Fretz, Mrs. Gladys Hudelmaier, and Mrs. Sally Beatty, who are retiring and have 160 years of teaching experience between them, were honoured by the Waterloo County Board of Education at a tea organized to mark this occasion.

The author's opinion is that the teachers' use of union tactics to get higher pay may have meant that in some peoples' eyes they have lost their professional image. He/She believes, however, that they remain professionals in spite of this.

Contains news clipping (source unspecified) reporting that Twyla Hendry has been nominated chairman of the Waterloo County Board of Education. In her inaugural speech Hendry referred to the innovations which have been implemented by the board trustees over the previous two years.

This issue of this newspaper contains a list of Waterloo county board of education and separate school board election candidates. Reproductions of portrait photographs as well as a biographical note on each candidate are also provided. Also includes front page cover story regarding Ontario Education Minister William G. Davis' proposal for the reorganization of the school jurisdictions. As a result of this proposal interim school organization committees were established in each new school division. This clipping focuses on the activities of the committee which was set up in Waterloo County under the leadership of Brian Bennett.

Contains article (The Record, Monday, 17 April 1995, sec. D, p. 1) which reports on the finances of the Waterloo public school board vis-à-vis the separate school board. Other articles contained in this section of the Record focus on the proposal that the Education Act be amended to allow instructors who are not certified teachers to supervise students under specified conditions and circumstances and to deliver certain non-academic programs, while the other article reports that the Open Sesame head-start pre-school is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Some of this correspondence was sent or received in her capacity as a key teacher, as President of Unit 1, as a W.C.W.T.A. Past President, as the association's County Adviser, and as a member of the Book Project Committee.

Other materials in this file include ts. of W.C.W.T.A.'s comments on the Reville Report, a poem by Joyce Lodge (West Unit Executive Member) entitled "You Will Be There", an information sheet featuring an outline of the history of the W.C.W.T.A.
