From then onwards he held various titles including Accountant, Business Manager, Comptroller, Treasurer, and Vice-President, Finance and Operations. Gellatly retired in 1983.

He became the first employee of the Ontario University Athletic Association, pioneered sports information networks throughout Canada, initiated the CIAU Top Ten Rankings, and was a founding member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches of Canada. Paul also served on the University of Waterloo Board of Governors and was the President of the University of Waterloo Staff Association. He retired in 1996.
