Petworth Emigration Project : Part two : a list of Petworth emigrants, 1832-1837 : 1832-7~pri.wpd.

Part two as it went to the publishers. Consists of a 394 p. WordPerfect file on one floppy disk, 3.25". Note from the donors : "This version does not contain any changes made in proof. The list was compiled from our main database (English research); information from the Canadian research was added by Mary and reviewed by Brenda."

Petworth database, disk 1.

Disk 1 contains three WordPerfect files on one floppy disk, 3.25": Base.mrg, Basefile.bas.wp, Basefile.1st. Base.mrg contains a list of field names, 1 p. Basefile.bas.wp is a database file with field names and tags appearing, 234 p. Basefile.1st is a 243 p. document with field and record end tags appearing but no field names appearing. Note from the donors : "These files represent our main database collected from English and printed sources and from information received from descendants. The material collected by Brenda in Canadian sources is in a separate data base (sent as e-mail attachments in May 2001)".

Disk 2 contains five WordPerfect 7 files on one floppy disk, 3.25":
1832-37-base: 199 p. document with endfield and endrecord tags, no field names.
Basefile.tmp: could not open.
baselist.mrg.frm: list of fields for database, 1 p.
Note from donors: "The 1832-37-base represents the database for just the 1832-1837 emigrants. Our printed list was generated from this base."
sponsors.bas: 26 p. document, field names do not show, endfield tags and endrecord tags show.
sponsors.mrg: list of field names, 1 p.
Note from donors: "Information on sponsors of the emigration was kept on a separate data base. This data base is not complete".

Consists of material relating to the research for, writing and publication of two volumes relating to the Petworth Emigration Scheme: Assisting Emigration to Upper Canada : the Petworth Project, 1832-1837 / by Wendy Cameron and Mary McDougall Maude, and English immigrant voices : labourers letters from Upper Canada in the 1830's, both of which were published by McGill-Queen's University Press in 2000.

The files retained by the Project fall into three broad categories :

1) the "results of genealogical research in England and the family history files used in creating the list in Part 2 of Assisting emigration;
2) files relating to research in Canadian genealogical resources;
3) files dealing with the process and creation of the books."

Included are correspondence among the primary researchers and to and from individuals relating to families and individual emigrants, data sheets and electronic databases relating to Petworth emigrants and sponsors, photocopies of original correspondence and documents, research notes, drafts and working papers relating to the editing of the final manuscripts.
