Grand River Conservation Authority Library

The Grand River Conservation Authority Library was donated in 2005, accompanying the archival records of the Authority and its predecessors.

The Library was maintained at the GRCA headquarters for reference and research use and consists of works by and about the GRCA, including both internal and external reports and studies, periodicals, and monographs.

Unpublished library items are described as part of the GRCA archives while published items are catalogued as print material and are listed in the library catalogue.

Consists of ts.contract documents for the construction of sluice gates for the Wellington Street dam on the Speed River in the City of Guelph, prepared by R.K. Kilborn & Associates Ltd., Toronto, Ont. for the Grand Valley Conservation Authority.

Includes instructions to tenderers, form of tender, general conditions and specifications. Also includes advertisement from the Daily Commercial News and Building Record, (undated) notifying prospective tenders of the closing date for bidding for the supply and installation of sluice gates for the dam, and a letter from Ardelt Industries of Canada Limited to the Grand Valley Conservation Authority.

Consists of a binder containing materials relating to the operation and maintenance of water control structures employed in the Grand River Conservation Authority flood control and low flow augmentation systems. The binder is divided into the following sections :

  • Work Programs, which includes photocopies of correspondence and budget statements regarding water control structures; Inspections, including reports and invoices for water control structure inspections for 1967;
  • Regulations including instructions from the Ontario Department of Energy and Resources Management; and
  • Reports, including photocopies of correspondence and reports on flood warning systems and water control structure maintenance.
