Consists of 4 ts. (original and photocopies) papers presented by Grand River Conservation Authority staff members at a Land Use Planning Conference sponsored by the GRCA at the Waterloo Motor Inn, Waterloo, Ont., March 21, 1973.

The papers are titled :

  • "Overview of the Authority," by N. Oldfield, Chief, Forestry and Wildlife;
  • "Water resource management in the Grand River Basin," by C.W. Stevens, Manager, Water Resource Engineering;
  • "The Authority's Regulations and Stream Valley Land Program, " by E. Lemp, Director of Planning; and

Consists of a ts.(photocopy) report concerning an alternative or supplemental water supply from Lake Erie for the community of Brantford, Ont., prepared by N.A. Grandfield, P.Eng., General Manager and Secretary of the Brantford Public Utilities Commission for the Chairman and Members of the Brantford Public Utilities Commission, Janurary 27, 1967. Sections of the report have been underlined or otherwise marked.

Consists of a DVD transfer of a videocassette recording of train journeys filmed from the caboose of a train travelling on the Lake Erie & Northern (CPR) rail line from Cambridge to Brantford, Ontario on May 8, 1990 and on the last train run on the line, July 31, 1990. The film shows the track and the natural and constructed areas immediately surrounding it.

The track was subsequently removed and converted to the Grand River Conservation Authority Cambrdige to Paris Rail-Trail in 1994 and the SC Johnson Rail-Trail in 1996 according to information provided by the GRCA on the box listing supplied with the fonds.

Consists of ts. paper entitled "In the Wake of Hurricane Hazel : a review of flood problems," by R.L Clinch and H.J. Saaltink, H.G. Acres & Company Ltd., presented at the Engineering Institute of Canada, May 11, 1955. The paper deals in part with the Grand River. Includes blackline storm tracking diagram, and isoheytal maps and flood hydrographs of the Grand River prepared by H.G. Acres & Company Limited, May 1955. Also includes a cover letter from A.W. F. McQueen, Vice-President, H.G. Acres & Company Ltd.

Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario : Engineering Department : memorandum and report.

Consists consists of a ts. (photoreproduction) of a memorandum of an investigation by the Hydro-Electric Commission dated June 16, 1938, concerning alternative dam sites on the Grand River above Fergus, Ont. Includes a covering letter by O. Holden, Chief Hydraulic Engineer, Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, Engineering Department.

Also includes a ts.(photoreproduction) report by the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, Engineering Department, showing yearly minimum flow levels measured at various points on the Grand River, 1914-1936. The report is accompanied by a covering letter by O. Holden dated August 13, 1938.

Also present is a letter from the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests Surveys Branch to the Grand River Conservation Commission, dated February 23, 1939 concerning cost allotment by municipality for improvements to the Grand River.

Guelph dam site : topographical map and articles.

Consists of a topographical map produced by the Geographical Section, Department of National Defence in 1939. The map has been annotated to show the Guelph and Eramosa damsites. The annotations may have been made at the design phase of the Guelph dam ca. 1971. Includes a reprint and mockup of an article titled, "Guelph Dam and Reservoir, Ontario," The Canadian Architect, (June, 1977), and an article titled "Guelph Micro-Hydro System," Your Valley (Spring, 1983).

Consists of ts. materials relating to the opening of a micro-hydro demonstration project on the Speed River at the Guelph Dam, near Guelph, Ont. Includes correspondence, agenda, minutes of meetings held in preparation for the opening, ts. corrected draft of text for opening ceremony and a printed opening ceremony leaflet. The file probably belonged to Ralph Beaumont who at the time served as Information Supervisor of the GRCA Communications Division. The front of the file folder contains ms. notes concerning the opening.
