Consists of a document including recommendations, submitted on behalf of the Grand River Conservation Authority by R.J. Miller to Judge W. Leach of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Grand River Flood, 1974.

Consists of ts. (photocopy) materials concerning an Ontario Order-in-Council assented to May 1, 1974 regarding fill, construction and alteration to waterways on the Grand River. Includes correspondence from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to the GRCA, July 4, 1974 introducing the regulation and a copy of the Order-in-Council. Also present is background documentation including copies of selected minutes of the GRCA and copies of the Ontario statute : The Conservation Authorities Act, R.S.O. 1960, Ch. 62.

Consists of ts. report concerning a proposed reservoir at Ayr, Ont. Includes photocopies of maps showing present land use, soil types and soil classification. Also includes a copy of a letter from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to the GRCA, dated July 10, 1974, regarding flood control benefits of the Ayr Reservoir. Also present are photoreproductions of Grand River Conservation Commission Graphs showing Mean Daily Flows in the Grand River for the Water Years ending 1948-September, 1973.

Biological impacts of the proposed Ayr Dam.

Consists of a ts.(photocopy) student paper by Barb Anderson, Barb Corkery, John Gusdorf, John McCormick, Gregg Sheehy, Gary Williams and Roberta Winger prepared for a fourth year Man-Environment course at an unidentified University, possibly University of Waterloo. The paper considers the possible effects of a proposed dam at Ayr, Ont. upon vegetation, wildlife, water quality and landscape.

Consists of materials relating to the planning and procedures of a flood warning system for the Grand River Watershed. Includes :

  • ms.(original) minutes of meeting of representatives of the GRCA, member municipalities and regional and municipal police forces concerning the establishment of an emergency flood warning system;
  • ts.(photocopy) notes on GRCA meeting with news media representatives, December 12, 1974;
  • ts. draft plan of flood warning system, revised, January 10, 1974 ;
  • correspondence between the Grand River Conservation Authority, member muncipalities and chiefs of police regarding flood warning systems and flood emergency preparedness;

Consists of a ts. final report produced by the Grand River Conservation Authority summarizing the activities of students employed in GRCA conservation, community relations, wildlife management and clerical programs, as part of the Ontario Experience '75 summer employment program.

Ontario : Ministry of Natural Resources : study on evolution of floodplain management.

Consists of ts. materials concerning the initation of a provincially-funded study entitled : Study on Evaluation of Floodplain Management. The study was a joint initiative of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and the Ontario Ministry of Housing and concerned the impact of flood reduction from both a social and economic perspective. Also contains correspondence from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources including circular letters to the chairmen of Conservation Authorities in Ontario.

Series consists of slides organized topically, originally housed in metal slide tray cases. Includes slides of Luther Marsh and its environs, and a collection of wildflower slides. According to the original GRCA the slides were taken by Bill Miller. Identifications are provided on ms. lists included on the interior lid of each tray. Some of the slides listed are not present.

Grand River Conservation Authority : report of the Long Range Planning Committee : five finger exercise, July 14, 1975.

Consists of ts. (photocopy) report of the Grand River Conservation Authority Long Range Planning Committee titled : "Five finger exercise." The report concerns the decision-making process of the GRCA; the phrase "five finger exercise" refers to the components of the Grand Watershed system and is meant to convey that the "watershed works as a unit even though there are component parts."

Luther Marsh slides : tray number 1.

Consists of slides of flora, fauna, farming and recreational activities at Luther Marsh and its surroundings, which were apparently employed in a slide show. Identifications are provided on an ms. list on the interior lid of the slide tray; but many of those listed are not present; those present are not in any order. Includes slides of the Shand Dam, bird banding, blue herons and their nesting grounds and crop harvesting.

According to the original GRCA listing, the slides were taken by Bill Miller.
