Ellis Bray to Abraham Bray.

One letter from Ellis Bray to Abraham Bray, dated January 21, 1877 from Cheshire, England. Ellis Bray is a cousin of Abraham Bray, son of Uncle James. Ellis gives a detailed account of his life over the last ten years traveling through the United States as a labourer, making reference to Chinese labourers and "troublesome" Native Americans. The letter also includes details of Ellis' life back in England, where he married and became a station master, of his father's death on February 12, 1874, and accounts of Bray family still living in England, including James' siblings Uncle William and Aunt Mary, and Ellis' siblings.

Ca. [44] p. ms. diary contained in a coverless notebook kept by J. H. Shoults. This diary covers the period July 1, 1878 to Dec. 31, 1878 when Shoults lived in Little Britain, and it contains daily entries recording personal, social, and professional activities, as well as accounts of weather conditions. Diary entries relate to Shoults' activities as a minister, and include the names of the places where he preached and of the Bible readings which formed the basis for his services. Reference is also made to the many church meetings he participated in, to individuals he baptized, to funerals, to a Christian conference, and to other church activities in which he was involved. Descriptions of family, social, and parish visits are also contained in this diary, including the names of many friends and acquaintances.

One item of correspondence from Maria Gerrie to her father Samuel B. Bauman and brother-in-law Allan Bowman (husband of sister Nancy). The letter is dated and addressed March 18, 1878, Hamilton. In the letter Maria mentions that she has recently married John Gerrie and that they have just moved from Stratford to Hamilton. She also describes their new home in detail and compares it to the previous one.

One item of correspondence from Maria and John Gerrie to her father Samuel B. Bowman and sister Nancy Bowman. The letter is dated and addressed July 2, 1878, Hamilton. In the letter Maria discusses recent Dominion Day celebrations in Toronto and taking the boat from Hamilton to their. She also mentions strawberry picking, friends visiting and that she is planning on going to the Mechanic's Institute Library. She also entreats her father to come visit her soon by taking the Great Western and Hamilton line.

File consists of an insurance policy for Daniel Scherer, a cooper from the Town of Waterloo, from The Economical Mutual Fire Insurance Co. of Berlin. Insurance covers home, barn, and household furnishings, etc. for property on William Street in Waterloo. Includes an additional agreement transfering the policy to Henry Koch of Breslau for securing payment of a mortgage.

One small leather-bound booklet with inscription "From J.N. Moyer to his Nephew Orpheus Moyer Schantz, Campden, Lincoln Co., Ont., 5th April, 1869. This booklet is the "annual circular" of the Cochran Co. and alternates blank pages with a catalogue of dry goods carried. Orpheus Schantz began to use this as a drawing book in 1878, and it contains drawings in pencil of animals both domestic and foreign, each signed and dated.

Diaries, 1879.

Ms. diaries contained in two coverless notebooks kept by J. H. Shoults. The first ca. [48] p. ms. diary covers the period Jan. 1, 1879 - June 30, 1879 when Shoults lived in Little Britain. The second ca. [54] p. ms. diary covers the period July 1, 1879 - Dec. 31, 1879. In this latter diary Shoults describes how he moved from Little Britain in Oct. 1879 to take up a new position "as an Evangelist under the direction of the Mission Board" (see diary entry for Oct. 6, 1879). While in this new position Shoults lived in a rented house in Newmarket (see diary entry Oct. 7, 1879). The diaries for 1879 contain daily entries recording personal, social, and professional activities, as well as accounts of weather conditions. The majority of entries relate to Shoults' activities as a minister, and include the names of the places where he preached and of the Bible readings which formed the basis for his services. Reference is also made to the many church meetings he participated in, to individuals he baptized, to funerals, to a Christian conference, and to other church activities in which he was involved. The funeral of Eld. Thomas Henry, who died at the age of 81, is referred to in a diary entry written on Sept. 23, 1879. Descriptions of social, and parish visits are also contained in these diaries, including the names of many friends and acquaintances.

Moyer to the children of Tobias and Mary Schantz while they were living in Conestoga, Ont., one entitled "Johnny's Address to Santa Claus" dated Dec. 24, 1878, one illustrated calligraphic manuscript New Year's poem: "1879 AD, Affectionately Inscribed to His Nephews and Nieces, by J. N. Moyer", and one entitled "Six Children Beloved" dated Jan. 21, 1879.
