Fry, Annie Nash.

One studio portrait of Annie Nash Fry (wife of Samuel Fry) seen looking at camera. Annie is shown late in life wearing a bonnet which ties at her neck, and glasses. Also includes one print of the identical portrait with a poem. Item may be a funeral card. Identification from verso with birth date as 1819 and death as 1903. Identification is uncertain however, as a print with a poem about the woman identifies the woman as Nancy Fry (possibly familiar form of Anna).

Poem reads:

We meet, in thankfulness to-day,
For blessings showered on our way.
May all our hearts with love abound
As once again we gather round
The heartstone of Aunt Nancy.

A scrapbook containing newspaper clippings, mostly engraved portraits of members of the British and Russian royal families. This scrapbook occupies the first twenty pages of a publisher's dummy entitled, ?House and Home: A Complete Housewife's Guide? by Marion Harland (Toronto, W. Briggs, [[19--?]?]), and every second leaf in this section has been cut out to accommodate the bulk of the clippings. The rest of the volume, originally published in the United States for an American audience, contains a sample of chapters and engravings on everything from home decorating, relationships, child-rearing, etiquette, menus and recipes. At the end of the volume Tobias Kolb Schantz has written the names of customers and the binding style ordered by each.

Includes notes on calls made, customers quotes and orders, pasted in editorials, deaths of relatives and friends as well as Tobias' hand written draft of his daughter Etta's obituary which contains information on her life, marriage, children, and more.

Three pages of manuscript, possibly a transcription, of a hymn written on the verso of pages from ledgers. The pages may be from a ledger for a shirt or clothing factory. The ledger pages contain lists of "Machine Hands" and "Buttonhole Hands," all women's names with accompanying numbers. Women listed under ?Buttonhole Hands? include Emily Devitt and Mrs Joachimi (mother or grandmother of Norman Schneider's wife).

Schantz, Arthur : Alberta.

Snapshots of Arthur Schantz's life in Alberta. The images range in date from ca. 1900 to ca. 1920 and show Arthur and Austin Schantz as well as Jean Beddome (Braithwaite). Included are images of Arthur's summer job as a fire warden and a trip by wagon to Lake Minnewanka in Banff National Park. Also of interest are images of a group of youths who came to visit Arthur while he was a warden. Of particular interest is the dress of the women who are wearing jeans. Most of the images are unidentified.

Twenty drawings and sketches by Orpheus Moyer Schantz. Included are portraits, studies of animals, technical drawings for a boat, one ink drawing of the back of a woman in a gown, two drawings after C.D. Gibson- "When Doctors Disagree" and "Mr. Pipp just after dinner steps our for a few moments with a change acquaintance. He returns at 2 A.M.", and two with leaf varieties and poetry. Smaller drawings were originally found in an old men's silk handkerchief box with other ephemera.

A scrapbook containing coloured cuttings, some printed for the purpose, with the majority being floral items cut from seed catalogues. The burgundy leather cover is heavily tooled in a thistle pattern, and includes a coloured pictorial card of a bluebird pasted on.
