One focuses on the history of the Toronto islands, another on the history of Grace Church on-the-Hill between 1874 and 1964, and a third on Metropolitan Toronto. Advertising brochures : US/Can/British, mostly concerned with housing.

Contains materials primarily in the form of manufacturers' catalogues (dating from 1920's-1940's) re housing design and garden and greenhouse design. One publication was issued by the Ladies Home Journal and relates to bungalow design in the period pre World War II. Another item takes the form of a scrapbook compiled by Mary Eleanore Westley between 1921 and 1924 which includes clippings from magazines. These take the form of illustrations showing both exterior and interior home designs which were typical for the period. Manufacturers' catalogues include listings of home appliances, bathroom designs, greenhouse designs, and of roofing materials respectively.
One clipping (1989) contained in this file relates to plans for the new General Electric Building which is to be constructed using plastics along with other building materials.

File also includes several news clippings, one of which features the architect Ernest Cormier, and the other of which focuses on architecture in Montreal. Finally, this file includes an agenda paper by Mathilde Brosseau of the CIHB staff entitled "Second Group of Grand Trunk Railway Stations: Original Eastern Sections and Stations from c.1870 to c.1920".

Materials contained in this file were collected by Dendy when he lived in the U.S.A or was visiting the U.S.A. They include maps, and many tourist guides in the form of pamphlets, folded flyers, and brochures. Many of these take the form of guides to museum and gallery exhibitions, while others take the form of walking tour guides or guides to historic buildings or regions within the U.S.A.

In particular guides to different areas of Chicago issued by the Commission on Chicago Historical and Architectural Landmarks are contained in this file. Other items include postcards, col. photographs, as well as clippings and issues of journals which relate primarily to the theme of architecture and/or art in certain areas of the U.S.A.

Contains Ontario government publications. This includes publications of the National Capital Commission re the history of the parliament buildings in Ottawa, re heritage buildings in the National Capital Region of Canada, and re The Mile of History in Ottawa.

Other publications re the planning and design of commercial facade improvements by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing are also contained in this file. Another publication by the Ministry of Natural Resources focuses on the history of mining in Ontario. Publications by the Ontario Ministry of Culture and Recreation include a publication on historic sites, museums, galleries, and plaques in Ontario, as well as a publication entitled Historic Sketches of Ontario.

Other items include publications of the Ministry of Culture and Communications re the Ontario Heritage Bridge Program and re built heritage in schools. Includes originals and photocopies of an article about Dendy by Adele Freedman which appeared in The Globe and Mail on Sept. 14, 1991. Additionally includes photocopy of a clipping (1988?) which appeared in The Toronto Star which focused on Dendy's career as an architectural historian.
This file also includes a photocopy of a review of Toronto Observed: Its Architecture, Patrons, and History by Dendy and Kilbourn. This appeared in Books in Canada in May 1987. Invitations to the launching event for this publication from Oxford University Press in association with Ballenford Books are also among the items included in this file.

Finally this file includes a folded flyer listing the winners of the City of Toronto Book Awards in the period 1974-1991.Lost Toronto received this award in 1979, while Toronto Observed: Its Architecture, Patrons and History received this award in 1987.The program produced for the City of Toronto's Civic Honours Day 1979 is also included in this file. City of Toronto Book awards were presented to William Dendy and other authors as part of this program.

Includes untitled loose leaf material in the form of correspondence received by Dendy over the period 1977-1991.
A considerable amount of the correspondence in this file relates to Dendy's professional employment including his teaching work at the University of Toronto, at the University of Waterloo, at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, and at the Toronto Urban Studies Centre. Other correspondence relates to walking tours of Toronto given by Dendy, as well as to Dendy's proposed exhibition "The Architecture of Forest Hill" submitted to the Department of the City Clerk of the City of Toronto in 1991. Talks, presentations, and lectures given by Dendy at various universities, at public libraries, at the Toronto Historical Board, at the Architectural Conservancy Toronto, and at other places form the subject of some of the other correspondence contained in this file. Other correspondence, much of it with Oxford University Press Canada, relates to Dendy and Kilbourn's publication of Toronto Observed and to Dendy's proposed publication of a book re the history of architecture in Canada. The awards received by Dendy over the course of his life form another theme of this correspondence. These awards include the university scholarships awarded to Dendy by the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation for his doctoral studies at Columbia University, New York, as well as his receipt of an Award of Merit from the Toronto Historical Board in 1988 for Toronto Observed. Photographs and a research report re the Forest Hill Collegiate Institute are contained in this file, in addtion to a report on the history of the Forest Hill Village.
