Historical, Topical Files: News Clippings.

This series includes news clippings from The Globe and Mail, from the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, and from The Waterloo Chronicle. These clippings relate to educational issues. Some of them are relevant to educational matters at a national level e.g some articles report on the educational system in Canada, while anoher article focuses on the likely impact of computers for schools in Canada. Other clippings report on educational issues at a provincial level e.g. Ontario teachers' actions to oppose the anti-strike legislation in 1973. Moreover, some clippings relate to the activities of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario. Finally, this series contains news clippings which relate to educational affairs in Waterloo County including the activities of the Waterloo County Board of Education, and the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association.

This issue of this newspaper contains a list of Waterloo county board of education and separate school board election candidates. Reproductions of portrait photographs as well as a biographical note on each candidate are also provided. Also includes front page cover story regarding Ontario Education Minister William G. Davis' proposal for the reorganization of the school jurisdictions. As a result of this proposal interim school organization committees were established in each new school division. This clipping focuses on the activities of the committee which was set up in Waterloo County under the leadership of Brian Bennett.

Contains news clipping dated May 10, 1968 (source unspecified). One article reports that Education Minister Davis has announced that Waterloo county will not get two boards of education at least until 1970. Minister Davis says this is because he wants one or two years experience with the new system before amending the basic county plan. Another article relates to Waterloo public school teachers' salary increases, while an additional article relates to a school site swap negotiated by the Kitchener and district school board.

This series contains correspondence sent by or received by Mary Johnston as well as other administrative and legal documents maintained by her relating to the activities and affairs of the teachers' organizations of which she was a member. These include the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario, The Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario, the Waterloo County Board of Education, and the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association.

This series also includes materials maintained by Mary Johnston when she worked for the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association in various capacitites including Key Teacher, President of Unit 1, as a W.C.W.T.A. Past President, as the association's County Adviser and P.R., and as a member of the Book Project Committee.

Also included in this series is a file containing correspondence sent to parents by Mary Johnston when she worked with the Kindergarten at Brighton School.

Also includes supporting documents relating to this meeting in the form of a memorandum issued by the O.T.F. re proposed reorganization of schools under County Boards of Education, as well as a rough ts. draft of a brief to regional government drawn up by the Study Committee of the O.T.F.
Also includes a seating plan for an O.T.F. annual meeting held Aug. 20-23, 1985, as well as the "Report of the Teacher Representaives to the Biennial Review Committee on Teachers' Superannuation to the O.T.F. Board of Governor's Annual Meeting, August 20-23, 1985".
Also includes an executive summary of the O.T.F. dated Feb. 12, 1997, in addition to a paper entitled "School Principals and Vice-Principals are Teachers".
