General register for public and separate schools : Elizabeth Ziegler School.

One general register for students at Elizabeth Ziegler School from 1936 to 1955. Includes names, guardians, and addresses of students as well as recording their promotion at the school from grades Kindergarten to 10. In the back of the register are the principal's notes which include attendance and reasons why students left school, information on student promotions, library equipment, pupil supplies, health inspection records, religious instruction records, age grade reports, lists of teachers, and a log book detailing the history of the school. Inset in the front of the volume are various notes and reports including those on home economics and industrial arts, teachers schedules, attendance record forms, a note from the ROM advertising field trips, outline for music class for grade eight, and letters and memoranda from the school board.

The fonds consists of materials belonging to Mary Johnston which she acquired during her time as a school teacher and principal, as a member of various teachers organizations, and during the time she spent serving on various education-related local and provincial committees. This collection consists of correspondence, legal documents, minutes and other supporting documents re meetings, course materials produced for training courses and workshops, summary reports and other supporting documents re conferences, clippings, publications, printed materials, scrapbooks, and ephemera.

Waterloo County Board of Education: Meetings.

Contains newsletters issued by the Waterloo County Board of Education featuring highlights of the three regular board meetings and one special board meeting. The regular board meetings covered in these issues took place on Apr. 21, 1977, on May 28, 1981, and on Apr. 26, 1990. The special meeting took place Mar. 29, 1990. Also includes a memo addressed to all principals and staff dated Apr. 22, 1983 informing the recipients of this memo of the principal and vice principal transfers which were approved at the regular meeting of the Waterloo County Board of Education on April 21, 1983. This memo also contains a list of appointments to positions of responsibility.
This file also contains a notice and minutes relating to two separate Committee of the Whole Meetings, one of which took place on May 4, 1982 and the other on Jan. 13, 1983.

This series includes materials relating to the annual dinners of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario, of the Ontario Teachers' Federation, and of the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association. These materials include a small number of col. photographs, as well as booklets produced for guests who attended these dinners. The contents of these booklets vary depending on the organization involved but typically include menus, programs, agendas, biographical notes on retiring teachers to be honoured at these dinners, as well as lists of past presidents, executive members, committtee chairs, key teachers, twenty-five year members, and retiring members. Some files just include flyers which were sent out to organization members featuring details of the date, location etc. of these annual dinners.

This series includes news clippings from The Globe and Mail, from the Kitchener-Waterloo Record, and from The Waterloo Chronicle. These clippings relate to educational issues. Some of them are relevant to educational matters at a national level e.g some articles report on the educational system in Canada, while anoher article focuses on the likely impact of computers for schools in Canada. Other clippings report on educational issues at a provincial level e.g. Ontario teachers' actions to oppose the anti-strike legislation in 1973. Moreover, some clippings relate to the activities of the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario. Finally, this series contains news clippings which relate to educational affairs in Waterloo County including the activities of the Waterloo County Board of Education, and the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association.

Equal-Opportunity Rights for Women Teachers.

Contains five news clippings. News clippings from 1980-1981 relate primarily to the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association's aim to obtain a written policy guaranteeing equal-opportunity rights for women teachers from the county board of education. One clipping from 1988 reports that the receipt of a provincial award for employment equity advances by the Waterloo county board of education is an "embarrassment". Sue Coulter, a member of this board, says that this is the case because the board has failed to live up to the honour since receiving this award.

Contains two news clippings (Kitchener-Waterloo Record, Saturday, 7 January 1978). One of these clippings is an article reporting that the Waterloo County Women Teachers' Association will be running advertisements in newspapers to ask the public to submit names of women elementary teachers who they feel have made outstanding contributions to education. The other clipping takes the form of a nomination form to be filled out by members of the public who wish to nominate a teacher for the Diamond Jubilee Award of the F.W.T.A.O.

Six Retiring Women Teachers Honoured by the Waterloo County Board of Education.

Contains news clipping (Waterloo Chronicle, Sunday, 23 May 1973, p. [1]) reporting that Mrs. Grace Scott, Mrs. Alice Bullard, Velma Samuel, Mrs. Irene Fretz, Mrs. Gladys Hudelmaier, and Mrs. Sally Beatty, who are retiring and have 160 years of teaching experience between them, were honoured by the Waterloo County Board of Education at a tea organized to mark this occasion.

This issue of this newspaper contains a list of Waterloo county board of education and separate school board election candidates. Reproductions of portrait photographs as well as a biographical note on each candidate are also provided. Also includes front page cover story regarding Ontario Education Minister William G. Davis' proposal for the reorganization of the school jurisdictions. As a result of this proposal interim school organization committees were established in each new school division. This clipping focuses on the activities of the committee which was set up in Waterloo County under the leadership of Brian Bennett.
