Consists of ts. paper entitled "In the Wake of Hurricane Hazel : a review of flood problems," by R.L Clinch and H.J. Saaltink, H.G. Acres & Company Ltd., presented at the Engineering Institute of Canada, May 11, 1955. The paper deals in part with the Grand River. Includes blackline storm tracking diagram, and isoheytal maps and flood hydrographs of the Grand River prepared by H.G. Acres & Company Limited, May 1955. Also includes a cover letter from A.W. F. McQueen, Vice-President, H.G. Acres & Company Ltd.

Includes newspaper clippings, including two articles by Hugh Templin (1966), ms. notes by an unidentified author concerning the development of the GRCC from 1931 to 1946, four negatives in an envelope labelled "Drayton: Conestogo river, May 22, 1952," an advance proof of a cover page of a publication titled : Flood Control in Southwestern Ontario, and a pamphlet by the Grand Valley Group of Engineers titled : A Plan to Grow Wealth and Eliminate Waste, 1936.

Simonett, Minister, the Department of Energy and Resources Management, and the Government of Canada represented by the Honourable Arthur Laing, Minister of Northern Affairs and Natural Resources.

Consists of a ts.brief prepared by the Grand River Conservation Commission to demonstrate to federal and provincial authorities the need for proposed multi-purpose reservoirs and other control work the Grand River Watershed.

Includes four blackline maps of proposed reservoir catchment areas in Ayr and West Montrose, Ont. and flood stage maps of the cities of Brantford, Paris and Galt, Ont., prepared by J.M. Tomlinson & Associates Ltd, Consulting Engineers, January, 1964. Also present are photographs of floodwaters in the Grand River Watershed at Brantford, Galt and Paris, March 20-22,1948.

Consists of ts. minutes of the Executive Committee of the Grand River Conservation Commission pasted into a bound volume.

Also present are:

  • correspondence from the Executive Committee to the Chairman and Members of the Grand River Conservation Commission;
  • a printed copy of Province of Ontario legislation entitled An Act to Provide for the Conservation of Water in the Grand River Valley, 1938 which defined the powers of the Grand River Conservation Commission and established the guidelines for selection and composition of the Executive Committee;
  • printed muncipal voting lists from West Garafaxa township, 1942; and
  • a packet of cancelled cheques dated January to November, 1941.

Consists of a published booklet titled, Conserving the waters of the Grand River : a necessary public work, by the Grand River Conservation Commission, June, 1936. The booklet reviews the GRCC's general plan for conservation of waters of the Grand River, particularly its proposals to establish reservoirs upon the upper reaches of the Grand River and its tributaries. Accompanying the publication is a cover letter from William Philip, Chairman, Grand River Conservation Commission to an unidentified recipient, dated August 19, 193

Inserted in the booklet are :

  • printed itinerary titled, "Route of Trip Along Grand River," by the Grand River Valley Boards of Trade, Thursday, September 24, 1931, which lists proposed dam sites from Kitchener, Ont. to Grand Valley, Ont. to be visited by the Grand River Valley Boards of Trade members;
  • ts.(photocopy) [draft?] of a periodical titled, Our Valley : Grand Valley Conservation Authority, Vol.1, no.2 (June, 1954): 1-4; and
  • Department of Planning & Development pamphlet titled Conestogo Dam and Reservoir, which includes background information and map of the proposed dam site. The words, Turning of the first sod, May 30, 1955 have been handwritten on the pamphlet.
