Records documenting most aspects of the activities of the Muskoka Lakes Association from 1894 to the 1990s, with some gaps in coverage. Materials present include correspondence, committee minutes and annual reports, financial records, legal records, publications, ephemera, audiovisual material, and artifacts.

Accrual consists of material documenting aspects of the administration and activities of the Muskoka Lakes Association and some of its committees, mainly during the period from 1978 to 2003. During this time, the primary political and environmental concerns of the association included land use and resort development, taxation, water quality, and relationships with municipal and provincial governments.

Accrual contains records created and accumulated by chairs of political, environmental, and land use committees and by several presidents, as well as records relating to office administration and other committees and activities of the association.

Includes correspondence and memoranda; reports; presentations; committee minutes and agendas; newspaper clippings; publications; handwritten and typed notes; notices and decisions of provincial judicial boards; official plans, by-laws and other municipal documents; maps and architectural drawings; ephemera; and other material.

File consists of an untitled ms. volume containing minutes of the annual and general meetings starting with the first organizational meeting of Feb. 19, 1894. This was considered the 1st annual meeting. Annual meeting minutes are present for the years 1894, 1895, 1896, [1897], 1898, [1899], [1900],1901, 1902, 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1907, 1908, 1909, 1910.

Other minutes: Regatta Committee, 1894, Cottagers' Committee, 1896, as well as two leaves containing a list of prizes (medallions, etc.) with prices.

Includes faxed correspondence, a presentation by the Town of Gravenhurst and Dillon Consulting on the Muskoka Wharf Project environmental screening, a presentation (photocopy) by the Muskoka Wharf Project Committee to the District Municipality of Muskoka council, minutes from a council meeting, handwritten notes, and other photocopied material. Series consists of material created and accumulated by Robert Topp in his role as Chair of the Political Portfolio and its Taxation Committee (1994-1995) and member of the Political Portfolio and Chair of its Taxation Committee (1995-1996).

The Political Portfolio was involved in political and tax-related issues, and during this period was especially focused on property taxation and a group appeal of the 1992 property assessment to the Assessment Review Board launched in 1995 on behalf of over 1000 MLA members with property on Lakes Muskoka, Rosseau, and Joseph.

The appeal resulted in a decision favourable for the association that was then appealed by the Assessment Commissioner to the Ontario Municipal Board, where the association was partly successful and was granted leave to appeal to the Ontario Divisional Court.

The Committee on Land Use, Taxation, and Highways was responsible for examining and responding to town planning, development, and other land use issues in the Muskoka region. One of the developments of major concern during Vaughan's tenure as chair was a proposed resort at the Roseneath property on Beaumaris Island, and several files in this series relate to this issue.
