History
Jo Davis (nee Kowin) was an activist and environmentalist. Born in England, she immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1952 where she worked in the broadcasting industry before marrying and having children. In 1960 she co-founded Voice for Women (today Canadian Voice of Women for Peace) along with Lotta Dempsey, Dorothy Henderson, Helen Tucker, and Beth Touzel. Davis edited the book Not a sentimental journey: What's behind the VIA cuts (1990) and involved in the establishment of "Better Barrie Transportation Network", a group aimed at fostering improved public transportation. Davis died in Sudbury, Ontario in 2012.
