History
Faye Abrams was a Canadian academic librarian.
After receiving a teaching diploma at MacDonald College (1963) Abrams taught for six years with the Greater Montreal Protestant School Board. She completed a BA from Sir George William University in 1970 and an MLS from McGill University in 1973. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo in 1978 as Head of the EMS Reference and Collections Development Department, she held positions at McGill's McIntyre Medical Library and Education Library, in addition to roles at the Air Canada Library and the Bank of Montreal Library, where she served as Chief Librarian.
At Waterloo Abrams managed he library's Industrial and Business Information Services and interlibrary loan service., and led the committee responsible for launching the pre-internet service UWinfo Gopher. She was seconded to the Ontario Council of University Libraries in 1999 as a Projects Office. Abrams retired from Waterloo in 2009 and from OCUL In 2011.
Abrams was the recipient of several honours in recognition of her work bringing together library systems and collection including the 2007 Ontario Confederation of University Faculty Associations Academic Librarianship Award, the 2011 Ontario College and University Library Association Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2013 Canadian Association of Research Libraries Award of Merit.
