Photographic negatives contained in numbered transparent holders. Contains some photocopies of numbered contact sheets. The buildings depicted in these photographs are individually identified on many of the contact sheets. The photographic images in this file depict Toronto buildings and appear to have been taken for the purposes of Dendy's walking tours. They may also have been taken in the process of researching and gathering materials for the publication Lost Toronto.

Many publications of the British Columbia Heritage Trust are contained in this file. This includes the Technical Paper Series which focuses on specialized heritage subjects within a British Columbian context. Some annual reports of the British Columbia Heritage Trust are also contained in this file. Some b&w photographs received by Dendy from the Dept.of National Defence are also contained in this file. However, the subject of these photographs is not described. Finally, this file contains some postcards depicting historic sites and buildings in Nova Scotia and murals in British Columbia.

Includes research papers written by Dendy's students at the University of Toronto? to meet course requirements. These research papers relate to the architectural history of specific buildings in Toronto or to the architecture of specific regions within Toronto. This file also contains a copy of an historical report written by Dendy for the North York Historical Board re The Dempsey Hardware Store.

Other items in this file include several publications. One focuses on the history of the Toronto islands, another on the history of Grace Church on-the-Hill between 1874 and 1964, and a third on Metropolitan Toronto. An issue of the Canadian Historical Review (1979) and of the magazine "The City" (1979) are also included in this file, in addition to photocopies of extracts from books relating to the University of Toronto Expansion Program. Some photocopies of journal articles are also contained in this file, in addition to ephemera in the form of maps of Toronto, and pamphlets and folded flyers re historic sites and buildings in Toronto.

Toronto walking tour materials.

Includes many ms. and ts. (original and computer output) notes by Dendy prepared for the purposes of Toronto Walking Tours which were given by him. Each set of notes relates to a different area of Toronto. Other items include Toronto walking tour guides produced by the North Toronto Historical Society, the Central Y.M.C.A., Toronto, and other bodies. Photocopies from books and clippings re certain areas of Toronto are also contained in this file. Additionally this file includes maps of many different areas of Toronto, as well as many brochures and leaflets relating primarily to walking tours of different areas of Toronto.

Materials contained in this file were collected by Dendy when he lived in the U.S.A or was visiting the U.S.A. They include maps, and many tourist guides in the form of pamphlets, folded flyers, and brochures. Many of these take the form of guides to museum and gallery exhibitions, while others take the form of walking tour guides or guides to historic buildings or regions within the U.S.A.

In particular guides to different areas of Chicago issued by the Commission on Chicago Historical and Architectural Landmarks are contained in this file. Other items include postcards, col. photographs, as well as clippings and issues of journals which relate primarily to the theme of architecture and/or art in certain areas of the U.S.A.

Ontario : miscellaneous guides, etc.

Primarily includes materials relating to the work Dendy carried out as architectural historian to the Property Restoration Branch of the Ontario Heritage Foundation between 1987-1988. These include reports re Ontario Inventory of Heritage Properties issued by the Ontario Heritage Foundation in 1988. Additionally, this includes a year end report (1988-1989) by the Ontario Heritage Foundation re the Historic Properties Programme of the Foundation's Trust Committee. Other materials include various government publications either published by the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture or by the Ontario Heritage Foundation itself.

Other items in this file include copies of feasibility studies by R.J. Thom Architects in Toronto re the Town of Simcoe (1974), as well as ephemera in the form of folded flyers, pamphlets etc. relating to Windsor and the Niagara Escarpment. Finally, this file includes a book which focuses on the history of the Credit Valley Railway.

Ontario government publications and miscellaneous.

Contains Ontario government publications. This includes publications of the National Capital Commission re the history of the parliament buildings in Ottawa, re heritage buildings in the National Capital Region of Canada, and re The Mile of History in Ottawa.

Other publications re the planning and design of commercial facade improvements by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing are also contained in this file. Another publication by the Ministry of Natural Resources focuses on the history of mining in Ontario. Publications by the Ontario Ministry of Culture and Recreation include a publication on historic sites, museums, galleries, and plaques in Ontario, as well as a publication entitled Historic Sketches of Ontario.

Other items include publications of the Ministry of Culture and Communications re the Ontario Heritage Bridge Program and re built heritage in schools. The annual report (1985-1986) of the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, as well as a copy of Bill 176 ("An Act to provide for the Conservation, Protection and Preservation of the Heritage of Ontario") are also contained in this file. Other miscellaneous items include a road map of Ontario and various tourist guides in the form of folded flyers.

Includes untitled loose leaf material in the form of correspondence received by Dendy from his parents, other family members, and friends over the period 1977-1989. This includes letters, thank-you cards, congratulations cards, invitations, as well as Birthday, Christmas, and Get Well cards.

Includes untitled loose leaf material in the form of correspondence received by Dendy over the period 1977-1991.
A considerable amount of the correspondence in this file relates to Dendy's professional employment including his teaching work at the University of Toronto, at the University of Waterloo, at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute, and at the Toronto Urban Studies Centre. Other correspondence relates to walking tours of Toronto given by Dendy, as well as to Dendy's proposed exhibition "The Architecture of Forest Hill" submitted to the Department of the City Clerk of the City of Toronto in 1991. Talks, presentations, and lectures given by Dendy at various universities, at public libraries, at the Toronto Historical Board, at the Architectural Conservancy Toronto, and at other places form the subject of some of the other correspondence contained in this file. Other correspondence, much of it with Oxford University Press Canada, relates to Dendy and Kilbourn's publication of Toronto Observed and to Dendy's proposed publication of a book re the history of architecture in Canada. The awards received by Dendy over the course of his life form another theme of this correspondence. These awards include the university scholarships awarded to Dendy by the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation for his doctoral studies at Columbia University, New York, as well as his receipt of an Award of Merit from the Toronto Historical Board in 1988 for Toronto Observed. Finally, some letters relate to Dendy's activities as a member of various organisations including the Society for the Study of Architecture in Canda, the Society of Architectural Historians, and as a member of the City of Toronto Planning Advisory Committee.

One contains correspondence written by Howard Moran to the Public Archives of Nova Scotia in connection with research he was conducting into the 1917 Halifax explosion. The second file includes correspondence, clippings, and other materials re the Co-Operative City Park Apartments where Dendy lived.

The majority of items in this file constitute Dendy's research materials on Forest Hill, Toronto. These materials include photographs, contact sheets (both originals and photocopies), photographic negatives, ts. notes re building file permit information on residences in Forest Hill, and photocopies of lists of electors in the Forest Hill area of Toronto. Photographs and a research report re the Forest Hill Collegiate Institute are contained in this file, in addtion to a report on the history of the Forest Hill Village.

Some materials in this file do, however, relate to other areas of Dendy's research and interests. These items include correspondence with the architects Page & Steele re research Dendy was conducting for a forthcoming book on Canadian Domestic Architecture. Other correspondence with Page & Steele relates to research which Dendy conducted on 74-76 York St. (W). Dendy's research on Frank Darling forms the subject of some other correspondence. Clippings re architectural developments in Toronto, photocopies of photographs from the Archives of Eaton's of Canada, as well as photocopies of journal articles relating to Canadian architecture are also contained in this file.

Contains untitled loose materials including photocopied articles from Country Life dating back to the early twentieth century. These articles relate to home building and designs including motor houses, country homes, and cottages. Also includes an article focusing on Marshcourt, Hampshire, the residence of Mr. Herbert Johnson.
This file also contains some photocopies from books relating to Italian architecture including the Palazzo del Te and Jacopo Strada's Mantuan Drawings.

Hamilton research.

Includes ms. holograph research notes on Hamilton's architecture. Additionally contains photocopies of photographs of many buildings in Hamilton from Public Archives Canada, as well as photocopies of the index cards for these photographs. Photocopies from the book Up and Down Hamilton by T. M. Bailey and C.A. Carter are also included in this file. File dividers are used to divide these materials in to separate sections according to the topic to which they relate. Many of the notes are taken from the Hamilton Times and the Hamilton Weekly Spectator and relate to tender calls in the 1840s, 1850s,1860s, and 1870s.
