Fonds consists primarily of records relating to the operation and activities of the Grand River Conservation Commission from 1938 to 1966, mostly records maintained by successive secretary-treasurers, but including some chairman's files (William Philip), and operations files. Includes a wide range of documentation, including correspondence, financial records, minutes, personnel records, reports, maps and plans and environmental monitoring records. Documentation includes construction of the Shand and Conestogo Dams, property acquisition and management, relations and interactions with municipalities and government departments at the provincial and federal levels, flood management and monitoring, implementation and management of health care, unemployment insurance, provincial and federal taxes, rental and leasing of cottage lots and other properties, reforestation and nursery operations, management of motor vehicles and other equipment.

  • A.H. Richardson, Chief Conservation Engineer, Department of Planning and Development concerning elevation datum used at the gauge station at Brantford, work of the commission in general and discharge records for 1947 and 48 as a basis for storage need forecasting;
  • A.E.K. Bunnell, Consultant, Community Planning Branch, Dept. of Planning & Development concerning enforcement of the Grand River Act.

Includes a copy of an address by A.E.K. Bunnell "Introducing Seminar Town Planning Problems" at the Conference of the Federation of Canadian Mayors and Municipalities, London, Ont., June 12, 1951.

Dana Porter, notes by W. Philip and Hugh Templin.

File consists of "W" correspondence to and from E.F. Roberts on a variety of topics, including with Township of Woolwich, City of Waterloo, County of Waterloo, Township of West Garafraxa. Includes a letter from Eldon Weber accompanied by a letter copy to Dana Porter, then Minister of Planning and Development for Ontario; considerable correspondence to E.F. Roberts from Marcel Pequegnat, W. Philip and others re the Belwood Ball Park; a letter from Dana Porter to W. Philip re "prison labour." Includes ms. notes from W. Philip to E.F. Roberts, land deeds, blueprint, sketch maps, and product ephemera.
