Material documenting John Walter’s term as President of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (C.C.F.) Party’s Kitchener branch during 1930 to 1937. Included is correspondence concerning William Daum Euler, leaflets regarding an election campaign and anti-war messages, as well as various reference materials.

Ration coupons and scrip

File contains an two envelopes with examples of German ration coupons from the 1920s and examples of scrips from Rochester, New York and Multnomah County in Oregon. The ration coupons include a pencil identification that reads: "Walter Johann".

Leaflets

Series documents anti-war and anti-fascist sentiments during the early 1930s. Includes various leaflets of poems and songs on peace by William E. Dyer, a Toronto-based poet. Other leaflets relate to the 1934 Ontario provincial election and promotion for the Socialist Party of Canada in the Waterloo North constituency There is also a membership advertisement for the “American League against War and Fascism”, based in New York, and a Pax International issue from 1934 about the persecution of pacifists and promotion of peace.

Leaflet featuring "Children's Song for Peace" written William E. Dyer of Toronto, Ontario and issued by the Local Council of Women of Kitchener. Includes information about inspiration for the song; a transcription of a December 17, 1932 letter titled The King Appreciates Educational Efforts; and a written piece titled World-Wide Friendship.

Series documents John Walter’s correspondence with William Daum Euler and the Kitchener Daily Record. The correspondence focus on Walter’s request for a public debate with Euler over capitalism and the economy. Other correspondence and newspaper clippings cover the Record’s refusal to publish, in their newspaper, the letters Walter sent about challenging Euler. There are also clippings of Euler's speech which Walter references in his letters.

Leaflet titled "What do you mean fascism?" issued by the American League Against War and Fascism based in New York City. Includes mail in membership card and encouragement to read "Fight," a newspaper produced by the league.

The unknown soldier

One leaflet titled the Unknown Soldier and identified as an: "Extension of remarks of Hon. James P. Pope of Idaho in the senate of the United States Saturday, June 16, 1934. A sermon preached at the Riverside Church, New York, November 12, 1933, by Harry Emerson Fosdick."

One edition of Pax International (volume 9, number 4-5) published by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom dated October-November 1934. Contains articles about the persecution of pacifists and the promotion of peace.

City of Kitchener memorial service for Our Late Beloved Sovereign King George V.

Program for the "City of Kitchener Memorial Service for Our Late Beloved Sovereign King George V." The services took place on Tuesday, January 28, 1936 at 10:30 am at the Zion Evangelical Church, the Lyric Theatre and the Capitol Theatre and featured performances by the Scots Fusiliers of Canada Brass Band and the Salvation Army Band.

This edition of the Canadian Labour press includes political opinions of industrial workers on political issues and criticisms of Mitchell Hepburn, then premier of Ontario.
