Side 2; a recording of closing remarks presented by Charles Greb at the annual meeting of the YMCA’s of Canada held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on June 16, 1984. At the time, Charles Greb was at the end of his two-year terms as Chairman of the National Council of YMCA’s of Canada. His speech focused on the YMCA’s global endeavours. There is a clearer duplicate of the recording in File 2: YMCA 27.

Side 1; a recording of a speech given by Rix Rogers, Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Council, YMCA during the annual meeting of the YMCA’s of Canada held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 16, 1984. During his speech, Rix Rogers discussed the contributions of YMCA staff and a report of the year’s activities in each service area: field services, government relations, program development, international development, Geneva Park located in Orillia, Ontario, and administrative services. Additionally, he commented on the coordination, resources and information management systems needed at the YMCA.

Side 1 and 2; a recording of a presentation given by Margaret Catley-Carlson, President of the Canadian International Development Agency at the annual meeting of the YMCA’s of Canada held in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 16, 1984. This presentation was part of plenary session V and discussed the power and potential of the voluntary sector in humanitarian efforts and shortfalls of the current government. Additionally, she talked about the power of organizations like the YMCA to respond to change and confront the dangers of nuclear war, threats to the environment, and the continuing problem of world poverty. Some parts of Margaret Catley-Carlson’s speech were delivered in French.

Joseph Connell draft speeches.

Draft speech notes written by Joseph Orr Connell on envelopes, dated 1963 to 1966. The notes outline topics ranging from youth in modern society, changes and trends in society, women, and world peace. Also includes a speech, written in French, which expressed Joseph Connell’s gratitude to the Industrial Accident Prevention Association of Quebec, dated April 4, 1963. Also includes a photocopy of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra concert program from Wednesday, November 12, 1952. Joseph Connell, as YMCA Secretary, was listed as a speaker providing remarks of appreciation during the concert. The program contains an assortment of ads from local businesses and companies such as salons, insurance companies, and furniture stores.
