John Herbert accrual.

Materials relate primarily to the professional life of John Herbert, between 1953 and 2001, including manuscript and typescript poems, plays, works and essays, as well as ephemera relating to his works. The ephemera covers publicity, advertising and programs of his theatre productions. Outside of his theatre career, there are also materials pertaining to his personal life. Newspaper clippings document his opinions on social issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and the rights of gays and lesbians. Herbert also wrote biographies and photographic histories of his own personal life from childhood to early adulthood. Other textual materials include published works mentioning Herbert in reviews of his works and life.

One transcript of "The Blue Bird", written by Roy M. Mitchell. The typescript has been hand bound and a manuscript note, in Mitchell's hand reads:
"This impression of the “Blue Bird” is limited to three copies on superfine linen record, typewritten and made into a book. The copies have been disposed of as follows:
1. To Georgina Helen Saunders of Toronto
2. Reserved
3. Offered to the Forum Magazine of New York for publication.
This copy is number 1., and signed this sixteenth day of February 1913. Roy M. Mitchell."

The typescript is an essay reviewing Maurice Maeterlinck's play "Blue Bird".

Materials relate primarily to the professional life of John Herbert, from 1940 to 1981, such as his literary works; theatre advertising, programs, and photographs; correspondences to critics, fans, his agent, and others; and reviews on his works. The literary works include drafts of his plays as well as manuscripts of his short stories and poetry.

Sol Eisen collection.

Collection consists of four files donated as part of the Sol Eisen collection of Canadiana. These items include a ms. of Mexican plays, a music manuscript, a receipt for work completed by a slave on chain gang, and materials related to the life of Frederic William Wile.

Theatre record and scrapbook.

One scrapbook kept by an unknown theatre goer. The book is specially made for theatre performances and features in index of the plays, and a two page spread devoted to each play. The left hand side of the page allows for written comments on the title, date and location of the play as well as impressions, and criticisms of the actors and performance. The right hand side of the page is intended to be used to paste in the playbill. In many entries newspaper clippings about the performance are also present. All of the productions were held at the Castle Square Theatre in Boston by the Boston Stage Society in 1904 and 1905. There are records for 80 plays. Some of the playbills also include advertisements.

Typescript play written by Royde-Smith titled "Mafro: A Comedy in Three Acts." The play is dated March 1929 and was apparently unpublished. An inscription on the cover page reads "To W. Graham Robertson from Naomi Royde-Smith."

An audio-visual recording of an interview conducted by Dr. Anne Millar with Judi Jewinski, retired Administrative Dean at Renison University College, for the Oral History Hub pilot project. The interview includes discussions about Jewinski's family background, their decision to come to Waterloo and the path that brought them here, as well as their thoughts about the institution and where it will be at 100 years old, in 2057. Additional topics include teaching, writing and grammar, drama, English literature, Renison College, Faculty of Arts, students, poetry readings, Association of English as a Second Language Association of Ontario, English Language Institute, Centre for Teaching Excellence, Gordon Stubley Language Competency Committee, Maurice Evans, Richard “Dick” Knight, Grace Logan, Harry Tuyn, Neil Hultin, Harry Logan, Gordon Slethaug, Tanya Missere Mihas, Michael Smyth, and Switzerland. The interview was conducted in-person in Waterloo, Ontario. File also contains a transcript of the interview.
