File consists of incoming correspondence from Alice Very Brown and carbon copies of outgoing responses to Brown from Sanborn regarding his draft of a psychological monograph regarding "Little Anna". Correspondence from Sanborn makes reference to Carl Jung and his work "The Psychology of the Child Archetype".

File consists of incoming correspondence from Sanborn's son Robert ["Bob"] between June and August of 1962. Also in the file is a carbon copy response from Sanborn to his son dated September 1962 and a copy of a letter from Sanborn to his [daughter?] dated "Monday, -Oct. 4". Letters make reference to George Householder, George and Mary Heusenstamm, and Hilda.

Series predominantly consists of type- and manuscripts drafts written by Robert Alden Sanborn. Focused primarily on the social development of two young girls referred to as "Little Anna" and "Bunty" the narrative drafts include extensive revision annotations. Also in the series are draft letters regarding a child model named Carol and children in the writing of Lewis Carroll, as well as poems written by Sandborn and his mother Mary Farley Sanborn.

File consists of typed and handwritten correspondence from Sanborn to his wife Virginia while they were apart.

Consists of an undated typed manuscript titled The Story of Phytalus written by Sanborn. Six pages in length, editing annotations in black ink and pencil appear throughout.

File 2 of 2 contains drafts of the Prefatory Note and Chapter III: The School of Unlearning. Also in the file is a carbon copy of a letter from Sanborn to Olive [Burchfiel]. Dated Friday, February 24, 1961, Sanborn's letter outlines the state of the manuscript, how it came to be, and makes note of Willem Pinard, a professor of psychology at the University of Boston, having offered to write an Introduction for the book.

The first letter is addressed to Mrs. Bancker regarding her daughter Carol's appearance as a child model in photo shoot by Helen Lee that appeared on page 167 of the October 26, 1953 edition of LIFE magazine. Some of the drafts make reference to Gulliver's Travels. The second letter is addressed to [W. H.] Auden regarding children in the writing of Lewis Carroll following a review written by Auden titled The Man Who wrote Alice that appeared in [the February 28, 1954 edition] of the New York Times.
