Fonds consists primarily of records relating to the operation and activities of the Grand River Conservation Commission from 1938 to 1966, mostly records maintained by successive secretary-treasurers, but including some chairman's files (William Philip), and operations files. Includes a wide range of documentation, including correspondence, financial records, minutes, personnel records, reports, maps and plans and environmental monitoring records. Documentation includes construction of the Shand and Conestogo Dams, property acquisition and management, relations and interactions with municipalities and government departments at the provincial and federal levels, flood management and monitoring, implementation and management of health care, unemployment insurance, provincial and federal taxes, rental and leasing of cottage lots and other properties, reforestation and nursery operations, management of motor vehicles and other equipment.

Operations : Monitoring Records

Series consists of environmental monitoring raw data in the form of anemograph charts (1955-1970), gauge cards (1955-1967), rainfall charts (1955-1959, 1971) and snow surveys (1963-1964). An anemograph chart is a paper record of the direction and force of the wind; gauge cards contain data recorded manually by gauge readers at gauge stations along the Grand River; rainfall charts contain daily entries recording rainfall; snow surveys consist of booklets containing pre-printed pages for entering snow data. Although this data is not complete it is nonetheless important for providing a means whereby climatic and environmental change over time can be analyzed.

Includes material relating to the Ayr and Montrose Dams proposal, to assessment costs and notices, insurance, personnel, relations with municipalities and government departments, operations including dam, forestry, maintenance, land acquisition and management, cottage lots and rentals, etc. Contains correspondence, financial records, reports, memoranda, blueprints, ms. notes and calculations.

Annual meeting files contain lists of commission members for the year commencing, also correspondence form the various municipalities re attendance, members, etc.
