Trip to Niagara.

File consists of snapshots probably taken by Martha Rieder on a trip she took to Niagara on September 1, 1898 from Toronto on the S.S. Chippewa with her uncle and aunt [Anthes?], Irene [cousin?] and Ella Anthes Cook. Includes snapshots of Niagara Falls, Brock's monument, some of the party having a picnic, and other scenes from the trip.

Toothache

Letter from Jacob Anthes to his parents, Martin and Catharine in which he mentions having had head- and toothaches for the past week. He comments about the burial of Mrs. Hilbert and a trip in heavy snow to Bruce, as well as plans to preach further north for several weeks. Anthes shares news of the Steuernagels, who travelled for Assembly and had previously met Martin. He concludes by saying he's written to J. Wolf about property and noting how busy the summer harvest will be.

Theobald Anthes letter

Letter from Theobald Anthes, writing from Oberseebach, to Martin Anthes. The letter is addressed to "[m]y dear brother and friends," begins with a confession that he is not doing as well financially he has heard the Anthes are but thanks the Lord for his health. He comments on the death of his sister Eva and the struggle of running the farm with is daughter at his age. Anthes shares news of a visit from Caspar Edighoffer from Buffalo. The updates conclude with news of people in good health and those who have died.

File consists of one guide published by St John Ambulance during the first world war. The guide gives instructions on how to make various garments and supplies to send overseas to troops. A knitting pattern has been hand written on the back of the guide.

Sick wife

Letter from Jacob Anthes to his parents, Martin and Catharine. He shares news of his wife Magdalena's illness and her return to health, nothing they have had to rely on female help to get by. Anthes notes their youngest daughter is "quite healthy and so very friendly" and invites his parents to the consecration of the church later in January. The letter ends with a postscript note about the possible digging of a new well and his inability to contribute due to winter expenses.

File consists of share certificates kept by the Anthes family. Includes certificates for shares owned by John S. Anthes in the Berlin and Bridgeport Electric Street Railway Company (1) and the Berlin and Waterloo Street Railway Company (3); and certificates for shares owned by H. Milton Cook in Upper Canada Mines Ltd. (2), Malartic Gold Fields Ltd. (2), Triad Oil Co. Ltd. (1), Canadian Astoria Minerals Ltd. (1), and Canadian Atlantic Oil Co. Ltd. (1).

Also present are two letters, a memorandum, and ms. notes regarding the shares. File also includes an ms. list entitled "Anthes strong box contents," which includes the share certificates as well as documents relating to property transactions.

Sewing kit and keepsake box.

File consists of a keepsake box and sewing kit received by Martha Rieder for Christmas, 1892, from John and Carrie Breithaupt. Box is red velvet with a painting of two birds on the top (painting cracked and flaking off in some places). Contents of the box include: sewing kit items (needle case, needle, hook, thimble, etc.), pin cushion for displaying trinkets, 2 trinkets (birch bark canoe, souvenir of [?] tower), small paper fan with painting of matador and bull, mother of pearl bottle with decorative metal trim and cork stopper (scent flask?), clam shells attached with metal hinges and painted with flowers (souveinr of Niagara Falls [?]; paint flaking off; containing some type of fragrant material?),
*red velvet coin purse with leather interior containing a miniature pocket knife and coins (5 cents Canadian 1902, 5 cents US 1895, 25 cents US 1895).

Box also contains ms. note: "Martha M. Anthes, Christmas 1892, from Carrie and John."

Letter from Jacob Anthes to his parents, Martin and Catharine that begins with an update about a blessed assembly and extended meeting at Brother Bittner's. He shares that his wife Magdalena has been unwell for some time, but remains cheerful, and notes that he wants to fetch Katharina Weber to server her. He also shares that Magdalena David, currently in Berlin, is expected in the next week. He concludes by asking that Heinrich be told to come to Sebringville to wed and that J. Wolf be advised to hold off selling half the wheat.
